We went there during our 2-night stay in Sutton upon Derwent and took advantage of their steak night which they have on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It did not disappoint! Everything from the starters down to the dessert was absolutely delicious and my husband and I both enjoyed everything immensely. We had the scallops and garlic mushrooms for starters, the fillet and sirloin steaks for mains and shared the brownie for dessert, which was a good decision as it was a big portion and would have been to much if we had a dessert each. The bar area is dog friendly so we were able to bring our little Archie. Make sure to book a table as it did get quite busy just as we were leaving at just after 7pm (table was booked for 6pm - so service was quick too!) We didn't go for the wine and they were happy to give us an alternative for our first round of drinks. The staff were also very attentive and friendly despite being quite busy. 100% would recommend this place and would love to go back if we ever come back around this area again ❤️ Didn't get to take photos of the starters as we were so excited to eat them when they arrived. And took a photo of the brownie halfway through eating it. 😅

Our second visit to The Half moon. And once again it didn't fail to please. We sat in a different area. Still the atmosphere was relaxing and warming. All the staff are so friendly. The service is fantastic. We could tell what a well run place this is. Very efficient. The food is of high quality. I had the turkey Sunday dinner, the turkey wasn't dry and just melted with eat bite. Just perfect. My husband had the beef dinner. Also cooked to perfection and plenty of roasties, veg, homemade Yorkshire pudding and gravy to complement these. My son just wanted bar snacks of chicken goujions and cheesy fries. These came homemade goujions and generous portion of both. An extensive drinks menu. I just wish I could have squeezed in a plumb crumble. This has definitely become our favourite pub.

The food is the shining star of this establishment. The pub classics are very well executed. The Steak Pie and Beer-battered Fish and Chips are the stand-outs for me personally. The staff are great too. The maître d' is very attentive and clearly loves the place and his role. The other staff were super friendly and helpful also. The setting is lovely and the building was clean. It's fun spotting the famous stars of yesteryear on the walls. We sat next to Janis Joplin at Woodstock. There was a short period where multiple large groups all coalesced and it was very loud. I'm not sure how the staff could have avoided that though. Great meal.

Possibly one of the nicest Sunday dinners my partner and I have had in years.

On arrival we were greeted and shown to our table. Lovely old style pub but with lots of newer features too with well-kept light-wood tables.

Nice ambiance to the place, and staff were friendly and attentive but not overbearing.

My partner and I both decided on the Sunday dinner; him the beef, and me the lamb.

It came quite quickly which was a surprise as they were quite busy. It made me think it might all be pre-prepared and quickly reheated. How wrong I was.

There was absolutely nothing that I could fault about this meal; everything was piping hot, the roast potatoes had a lovely crispy and a right-amount-of-fat finish, carrot and mash mixture was a beautiful taste, lamb was so tender, and the yorkie pud was just the right size - not one of these 2 foot high ones that looks great but tastes awful! Cauliflower cheese was rich in texture, and all the vegetables were cooked perfectly.

Just the right amount of food too, nothing wasted but didn’t feel bloated.

Would definitely come here again without a doubt , and hopefully bring the...
