Unfortunately I would not recommend this place. When I booked I specifically wanted a room with an opening window and I was assured of this by Dr Karen Dickens. Now tell me if I'm wrong, but the only window was a small one in the bathroom. This does not translate to a window in the room. ||The ambience of the breakfast room is poor with no views. The quality of the breakfast food is good, but the presentation is inconsistent. Some days we would have a separate knife for the toast, some days we wouldn't. The professionalism of the staff leaves a lot to be desired. On two separate occasions we were asked if we were checking out that day. Neither were right. There should be no need to ask when I am checking out, instead they should be able to consult something to determine this. At £150 a night for 2, you really need to up your game. I have stayed in cheaper places which far out strip this one. Also, after the first night, we never saw anyone of the owners or management again. Very...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights. The room was large and spacious, decorated tastefully with matching furniture, a TV, coffee making facilities, bottle of still and sparkling water and a hairdryer. The bathroom, although a little tired was immaculately clean, with complimentary toiletries. The bed was comfortable. ||We were accompanied by our nervous anxious dog. We asked for a quiet table for breakfast and the meal we had in the restaurant. The staff, especially a lovely lady whom I didn’t catch her name, bent over backwards to accommodate us to make sure we were at ease and our dog was relaxed the whole time, even at their busiest time, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you. ||We had a little issue with our TV, that was sorted again making sure everything was perfect for us. ||The food was delicious. A full English breakfast to start the day. The evening meal was also of a high quality and came piping hot. ||Would definitely recommend a stay here, it’s also a great location to...
Read moreSpectacular roast dinner with warm and friendly service and classic pub decor. This pub is truly a gemstone.
First time here and we booked after checking reviews. When you turn up to a pub at 12:30 and the car park is already nearly full, you know you picked a good spot. We had one vegan and one dog in our group and all were catered to just so. It feels family run and people orientated. Everybody was excellent and so attentive. It was lovely to have such genuine connection with the team.
The carvery was such a highlight. Plenty of options, good quality food. Beef, pork, chicken, gammon, nutroast, roast potatoes (crispy and delicious), Yorkshire puddings, red cabbage, bread pudding, carrots, peas, parsnips, pigs in blankets, crackling, sweet potato mash, mustard cabbage and more. All really well done.
Thank you Halfway House team. You are doing everything right and we hope to be back one day. And if you are reading this review, what are you...
