The staff are very attentive. I would recommend booking a table as there can be a little wait if you don't. This should not be a problem as they have a lot of local ciders and beers to try why you wait. On my first visit I had the rump steak. Wich is the best rump I have had in at least 5 years. The home made chips are great. On my second visit I had the Caesar salad which was very good and the ploughman's was that good we took it home! I would highly recomend this establishment. If you are in the area pop in and try for yourself.

Amazing local pub with a great food and wide range of locally made drinks (Harry's Cider Rhubarb an absolute gem). Very helpful and accommodating owners ( found space to feed and welcome a large group of 12 people and 3 dogs on a short notice despite being really busy!). Everyone in the age diverse group ( 12 - 50) had something to do 🙂If in the area whole heartedly recommend stopping by 👍

Wonderful, family run, CAMRA award winning, country pub. Large selection of real ales and ciders available, along with the most delicious, home cooked food. The ploughmans I had, has to be THE best one I've ever had. (And I've consumed many). Super friendly staff, large beer garden, dog friendly and well worth a visit.

We visited on Saturday evening as a party of 9, we've been to the Halfway houses on a number of occasions and have always found it to be a fantastic venue with excellent food.

I am given to understand that the venue might be under new management, if it is, then it's great to see that the food is just as awesome as before. My wife had the steak and mushroom pie, it had a thin shortcrust pastry top and was filled with large chunks of steak and the gravy (which she let me dunk a chip into) took me back to my school days, it was delicious. I only had a bowl of chips and a bowl of beans as I had eaten earlier, otherwise, I would have had the scampi as you might expect if you follow these reviews. I would have posted pictures but frankly, the food was gone too soon.

In terms of facilities, there is a couple of steep steps down to the main entrance but I believe there is step-free access to the side, there is also a disabled parking space right outside, next to the large casks. The toilets might be disabled-friendly if you are in a wheelchair, I won't lie it's going to be a tad snug, especially if there is someone standing at the facilities, engaged in the removal of bodily fluids...

We will obviously be going back, the Halfway house is ideally suited to meeting with family as it is halfway between our houses, plus the quality of food is just mwah...(insert...

This pub is definitely more than meets the eye.

Simple and rustic would be the nicest way to describe this pub. Benches and solid wooden tables, old pews and a big leather sofa make up most of the decor in the front and back rooms. Big open fires provide character and warmth in this lovely old building.

Looking at the bar, you'd be forgiven for thinking there is not much choice, but actually the board next the bar lists a good selection of real ales.

But the star of the show is the food. It's a very traditional pub menu, but the quality is outstanding.

I had the Boar Burger with Chips. The burger was beautifully tender, a perfect size, well seasoned and topped with just the right amount of Stilton and garnish. The chips were chunky and incredibly crisp. Some of the best chips I've had.

4 meals and 9 drinks (most soft) came to less than £60 which is a bargain.

If you come here, don't expect fine dining, but do expect a warm atmosphere and some...

Sad to say the food we received tonight was basically inedible. I ordered the burger, my partner had the sirloin steak. The burger was hard, rubbery, incredibly salty, and served in a bun that disintegrated on the first bite. It was clearly frozen, and I couldn’t bring myself to finish it – which is very rare for me. The chips were fine, the coleslaw average. My partner’s steak was about 75% fat to 25% meat. She said the flavour was decent, but it was nowhere near worth the price charged and was not of an acceptable quality at all. The staff were indifferent, offering little in the way of welcome or service, which added to an overall underwhelming experience. A shame, as the setting itself is lovely. I can usually overlook one or two inconsistencies when eating out, but here the whole experience – food, service, and value – fell well below what you’d expect for a pub charging...
