We called in this pub just on the off chance for something to eat before setting off back home to Sheffield. So glad we did! I had the gammon steak and my friend had a burger- the portion sizes were amazing and the food was delicious! I had the gammon which was cooked to perfection, I received proper home-made chips which were just to die for! I also got an egg, a pot of peas and a lovely side salad, It wasn’t an ordinary side salad, it was presented beautifully And had a very tasty dressing! My only problem was, I simply couldn’t eat it all, not a problem for my friend though who polished the rest of mine off! He can eat for England! He got one of the house special burgers, which came with chips and Asian slaw, He demolished the burger pretty quickly, and said it tasted really great, and it looked good too from what I could see of it before he eaten it all! Must have been good! This is one of those pubs that has obviously had to branch out and serve food as a way of staying open. I imagine that this place was once bustling with all the locals, just in for a drink straight from work or later on for a night out. However, times have changed. What this pub has managed to do Keep hold of both for the time being. They cater for the likes of us, passers by who need a rest stop and something to eat, holiday makers who want to enjoy a nice meal out etc, But what was lovely was to see all the locals and workers are still drinking in there as well. In their mucky gear after a hard shift, Chatting with her friends, other locals and staff behind the bar. I found this particularly heartwarming as many of my own local pubs have closed down and haven’t been able to remain open, so we sacredly hold on to the ones we have left. If the people of Hawsker are ever in Woodseats or Heeley in Sheffield, they will most likely find me in my Royal Mail uniform propping up a bar after a hard days work doing exactly the same as them! If you are- come over and say hello!! I love to see someone enjoying a drink after a hard day! I do hope that other people arent put off by the fruity conversations and the swearing! (Only in the side where the locals were!) I loved it ,I made me feel more relaxed! I’m not keen on being in place where I have to stand on ceremony! The pub itself has obviously had to Modernise, I like a cosy boozer with lots of character But as I’ve said times of changed, however, this has been decorated beautifully and in keeping with the name of the pub. It Very much has a countryside field to it and is still cosy. I can imagine it on a Dark winters night with all the cosy lighting and the log burner roaring. Needless to say, whenever I am back up, that way, I will be calling him for something to eat, a pint and a good neb listening to the locals! Long may it continue. PS, sorry for the long post, I got...
Read moreThe vibe I got is if you're not a local you're not welcome... EDITIED: my dog is not extremely aggressive so how DARE you assume! He had a high vis jacket on that pointed out the fact that he wasn't dog friendly yet a dog that was off lead kept coming into his personal space and the owner was none the wiser, dogs should be on a lead in a public space. The fact that you reply to reviews like that is disgusting. I think you'll find that, I was speaking to a lovely lady across the table telling her how he is a rescue and has been previously attacked but we are trying to socialise him and hopefully in turn he will begin to trust other dogs again. She also came and gave my 'aggressive' dog a fuss before we left. Not that I have to explain myself to you.
Not one member of your staff gave a warm welcome, not Hi or How are you?
You are very rude and I regret coming back to you earlier and sitting outside. ALSO: dogs that aren't dog friendly are allowed in a dog friendly pub... we kept him under the table out of the way yet going back to a previous point, a dog kept coming up to him...
EDITED (again): when on earth did you talk to my partner? You clearly didn't see everything and your side of the story is very wrong. I think it would be beneficial to go back and look at CCTV.
EDITIED AGAIN: After calling up the pub and speaking to the owner to ask why he labelled by dog as aggressive I am even more angry. The way he spoke to me and didn't let me finish my sentence the way he made up lies about me bringing the dog over (by lying on the floor 😂) with treats even though I tried to move the dog away as the owner was oblivious. He lied about speaking to my partner as I was the one ordered the drinks... he stumbled on this one... I had to resort to shouting and admittedly swore at him as he labelled me as an irresponsible dog owner for putting a jacket on him to make other owners aware. (Cant quite see how this is irresponsible...) He told me that the locals weren't locals but when I mentioned where they were stood or one of their names as they were talking to the staff he said they weren't in, either this has happened before or he is just clutching at straws.
The pub is lovely and the surroundings are beautiful it's just a shame about...
Read moreWe felt unwelcome from the get go. No greeting, when we walked in just a you got a table booked. Starters were fab no complaints absolutely beautiful. Mains came, i was unable to find or taste any cod in my seafood linguine. This dish comes with garlic bread, I asked for cheese to be added to the the side that comes with the meal. The waitress who clearly did not know what she was doing brought me a whole extra side of garlic bread with cheese. Took me 10 minutes to get someone’s attention to tell them of their mistake, as no one came back to check our food even though they had done with other tables, there was no apologies or anything just it won’t be on your bill, no offer to put cheese on the bit that came with the meal. The man I assume to be the manager came over and in a quite unprofessional manner just went you can keep it I’ll have to take it off your bill. Felt like such a waste as I couldn’t manage 2 sides of garlic bread. Never got asked if we would like to see the dessert menu after our mains were cleared, all of the staff prefer to keep hovered around the bar then on the floor and serve their customers. After a further 10 minutes of waiting for someone to come close enough to us to ask them for a menu, desserts were fab we had the baileys cookie dough sundae. No surprise at this point no one came over to clear desserts, we had to go to the bar to ask for the bill, still no apology at their mistake just I’ve taken the garlic bread off. Get the bill and there is a £1 miscellaneous food charge on there. I question the girl, it’s for the cheese I added to my garlic bread side on the meal. THE CHEESE I NEVER GOT. I’d like to add on the side of garlic bread you can add cheese for 50p and the side is a full roll whilst the garlic bread with the meal is only half a roll, she has the audacity to try and charge me double for half the product. Food is amazing compliments to the chefs. Your staff need retraining or get some new staff that know what...
