Where do I start. Without going into too much detail. DO NOT BOOK. This place really needs to close which is sad to say as I had stayed here years ago and it was fab. Our bedroom was warm once we found where to put the heating on. The rest of the Inn was cold. Jamie was a friendly mine host but we got a feeling that he just doesn't want to be there. The old gentleman in the evening brought logs for the fire. Breakfast... We were offered cereal but no idea how long the stuff had been sitting in the jars. So we refused also totally refused breakfast next morning. We did have good sleeps. But this was the only good thing. We had booked the room with the view of Blencartha which we didn't get. So many other things I could go on about. We were the only guests in the Inn which was also strange considering other coaching inns close by were mobbed. This property needs an enthusiastic couple with great drive and a flare for conversation and detail. I reckon this place could be good again. But when mine host sits with his jacket on the whole time it doesn't make you feel relaxed. One other thing which did concern me was that the first night back of 11 the fire alarm went off with Jamie apologising saying it was sensitive so he then proceeded to turn the whole alarm off. Our safety gone right out the window. I wouldn't have that would have been allowed. No more rants no point....
Read moreWe had an overnight stop at the Herdwick Inn on our way to Scotland. We were greeted with friendly efficiency and shown to our room. On the way through we booked a table for dinner, in hindsight it would have been a good idea to do this when we booked the room as everywhere is limited for time and space due to Covid-19. The room was small but very nice and more than adequate for us. The floors are however very creaky and the walls between the roms are perhaps a little thin. This was not a big problem and somewhat expected as it is a very old building. There were the expected tea and coffee making facilities and a few biscuits to go with your cuppa. The complimentary toiletries were pleasant and the bathroom was very clean. Dinner was nice, we had Vegetable Samoas followed by Chicken and chorizo in white wine sauce, Steak and Ale pie, and finished with Apple crumble and custard. After a good nights sleep we had a cooked breakfasts and headed off on our further adventures. All in all a very pleasant stay with friendly staff and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again and recommend to anyone travelling...
Read moreWe managed to find this little gem of a pub as we were staying in the local area. From the outside it seems like your classic little local pub and inside is even better.
The car park had plenty of space to park several vehicles, the rear garden outside area was spacious as well which I can imagine is beautiful in the summer when it's beaming down.
We found a nice little spot to sit down and became to look through the menu. The menu was very carefully chosen with a good variety of food that catered for all.
We were not that hungry but after seeing the gammon and the pie come out, this QUICKLY got eaten all up.
Very flavourful food, great service from the young Irish man. I forget this name but he recently came over from Ireland with his girlfriend. He was very polite, kind and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he made us feel at home after a long day of travelling up here.
Food was very good quality and made with love. The drinks selection was very good as well.
Thank you so much, we will be back to try rest...
