Tucked away down a back street in a small village, we didn't expect five-star service and fine dining-level food at tHe Highland Drove. We also didn't expect such great tasting vegan dishes. But that's exaclty what we found.

It's hard in most places to get plant-based food, but as well as some incredible meat dishes, there's a good few starters and plant-based mains.

We chose chargrilled oyster mushrooms with a rich butterbean cassoulet, marinated courgettes and carrots, and divine lenttil, date and ras el hanout 'meatballs', served with a chunky veg pearl couscous. And they were both delightful.

With a weekly changing menu, the kitchen team here are clearly passionate, thoughtful and know what they are doing. How refreshing to discover a place that while not vegan, really understands the nuances of plant-based eating, and goes the extra mile to deliver healthy fresh food with creativity and flair.

My only complaint is that we live too far away to visit often. Oh, and a couple of the desserts were...

Having eaten in here 2 nights in a row back in September, the food was absolutely delicious so we looked forward to returning on our current visit to the area. As previously experienced, the bar staff were very welcoming and friendly.

We booked a table for 10/5/24. My husband & I ordered steak pie which was £16.50 each. Initially we both had to send it back because the pie was cold in the middle (a basic error which should never happen).

When the plates returned the pie was warm but the chips & peas were now cool, making the large chips very stodgy & unpleasant. I proceeded to attempt to eat what I could but the meat was so chewy & fatty making it inedible for me. I left a large amount & When asked by the waitress if everything was ok, I told her about my issues & she said sorry about that & proceeded to bring us the full amount on the bill which we duly paid.

We were really disappointed because our previous visit had...

We stayed here for two nights and dined on both of the evenings as well as enjoyed superb breakfasts. Both evenings our meals were very tasty,. beautifully presented and, I must say, the portions were very decent. I had salmon one evening and pork neck steak on the other (totally recommend). Husband loved his fish and triple cooked chips (clean plate), and had salmon on my recommendation the second evening. Chocolate brownie dessert is what we had on both evenings as it was simply the best. We will definitely come back again! Oh forgot to mention superb bar choices, we had the wild berry spritz, 2 of those each, very refreshing and nicely mixed! The pub hosts Tom and Claire are very friendly, very hospitable and go mile ahead to make sure you have exactly what you need and when you need it. Lovely warm atmosphere, fire places, traditional...

Christine & Donald who run The Highland Drove are a lovely couple who have become great friends due to the amount of times I've stayed there. If you want quality rooms, outstanding quality food, great company and quality beers, this is the place for you. The upstairs restaurant is a place of beauty and you can't quite believe it's part of the small pub you see from the front. I will be staying there for years to come and I would recommend it highly for a cosy break with your partner, passing through enroute to somewhere else or just for a getaway, couldn't think of anywhere else I'd rather be ❤ and one last thing, my wife made the individual room numbers to match the Highland Cow logo 🤣👌🏼
