The Hind's Head is a 17th Century coaching inn situated on Wasing Lane in Aldermaston. This is an example of a true English pub with a relaxing environment, friendly staff, and bags of character. The pub itself is spread out over a fairly big floor space with lots of little nooks and crannies. You can't help but feel relaxed. There are guest ales on tap to try alongside the normal suspects drinks wise. The food is good. We had the roast dinner on a Sunday and the beef was good. Now for the fun. We stayed overnight (it was a weekend getaway after all) and the room was very comfortable. There was even a spooky working trapdoor that seemed to serve no purpose other than to make us smile. The room really was very good, comfortable bed and pillows, lovely fresh sheets, en suite shower and toilet. I recommend room number 11 for sure. Situated about 20mins away from the busy centre of Reading this is a real treat if you want to get away for the weekend but not travel too far. Next door is Rosebourne Garden Centre which is worth a visit if you haven't been (see my review on that for an idea). Jake was the main man on the day, checking us in, running the bar, organising the dinner (top job - excellent service and great attention to detail). This is a dog friendly pub with doggy treats by the main entrance. Car park has plenty of parking space. Main entrance is from the car park so at the rear of the pub. There is wifi available. This is a thoroughly cracking country pub and I highly recommend it. We will be going back for sure.

I recently stayed at a delightful pub hotel and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort, making it feel warm and welcoming the moment I walked in. The room was clean, cozy, and well-appointed, with thoughtful touches like fluffy towels, quality toiletries, and a very comfortable bed that made for a great night’s sleep. Despite being above a lively pub, the room was surprisingly quiet – ideal for a relaxing weekend away. But the highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the food. The pub menu was a standout, offering hearty, well-executed dishes that made it hard to choose just one. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked duck breast dish as a main with an Asian beef salad for starter. The portions were generous, the presentation spot-on, and everything tasted freshly prepared. Breakfast was equally impressive, with a full English that set the bar high – crisp bacon, golden hash browns, and eggs done just right. The staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. They made us feel right at home and offered great local tips. If you're looking for a pub stay with character, comfort, and genuinely excellent food, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place. I’ll definitely be back!

This was a fantastic place to stay. The team were all so helpful, they allowed me to charge my electric car from room 16 (note for electric car drivers to choose that one) free of charge. We stayed in room 7, which was a gorgeous room with a four poster bed and large en-suite bathroom. The pub/hotel building is old but well maintained with lots of charm due to the retained original features. We missed the breakfast due to sleeping soundly in our big bed but dinner in the pub was fantastic. Great steak! We will be staying here again. :)

Visited this pub at lunchtime today 19-12-17 for a Christmas meal. The table had been prebooked for 12.30. We arrived at 12.20 so in plenty of time. There was an area cordoned off for us (9 in the group) we were not shown to our tables, which were a scattering of tables so we had to push some together so we could talk. We were pretty much ignored by the staff and ended up waiting 45 minutes for our starters. In the meantime the fire alarm went off twice, another 45 mins passed before we received our cold congealed food, that was despite two of the party complaining, i was 1 and as I was talking to a male with a white chef jacket who walked away while I was talking to him!. The burgers were cold, had no dressing in them. Chips were cold and soft, I had chicken in what looked like baked beans which were cold with limp greens. By this time we at been at the pub for 2 hours. The young man who was serving on the bar as well as our food came to ask if everything was ok. I told him the food was inedible and asked to see the manager. He refused to see us, the poor young lad came back to offer us a free round of drinks but we didn't have time. He then offered us a discount on the food which we accepted purely so we could pay and leave! The manager at this point came to clear the table but offered NO apology. When we finally left we had been there for 2 and a half hours!! Not acceptable!!

DO NOT VISIT THIS ESTABLISHMENT IF YOU ARE SHORT OF TIME OR WANT HOT FOOD!! 1 STAR REVIEW AS IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO...

After looking around the local area we decided to hold our wedding reception at the Hinds Head. |The building, garden and rooms are quirky, beautiful, clean and warm. From the word go, Frankie, the manager, was helpful, friendly, efficient and easy to talk to. She and her staff all aimed to help and provide an amazing day for us. We had planned to have the reception in the officers mess but due to the weather being fantastic, Frankie and her team, without fuss, changed the reception to the garden for us. |We booked the gold buffet option and Buck’s Fizz upon arrival. We then asked for pizzas, salad and chips in the evening. |Our room was beautiful - tasteful, comfortable and clean. |So the food - the chef at the hinds head is a genius. The food he created with his team was exceptional. All of our guests commented on the amazing selection and the quality. The pizzas in the evening (all home made and wood fired) were amazing - the best I have ever had in this country. Breakfast the next morning was also of a very high standard. I would, without hesitation, say this is the best chef in this area. I would highly recommend Frankie and all of her team to anyone considering a wedding reception. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for making helping to make our day so perfect. I would not have changed a single thing. You have a created a charming village venue and it’s great to also see the different events you hold regularly -...
