Decent Food, But Lacking in Service I recently visited The Hobbs boat in Weston-super-Mare and had an overall mixed experience. While the food was decent and flavourful, there were certain aspects that left me feeling disappointed. To begin with, the atmosphere of the place didn't quite meet my expectations. It seemed like a rather chaotic setup, with what appeared to be the landlord and an elderly gentleman multitasking on the restaurant floor. This gave the impression of a lack of organization and professionalism. During my visit on a Tuesday evening, we were seated near the bar. Unfortunately, it took around 10 minutes for our drinks to be brought over to us, which was a bit frustrating. What puzzled me even more was that other patrons received their drinks before us, even though we were seated right next to the bar. This inconsistency in service left me feeling a little perplexed. Based on this experience, I can only imagine that things might worsen on a busier night. It is concerning to think that both the food and service could decline under such circumstances, and that's why I cannot give it a higher rating. Overall, The Hobbs boat has potential with its tasty food, but improvements are needed in terms of service and attentiveness. It's an okay option if you're in the area, but keep in mind that the experience might not be as smooth as you'd hope for.

Stopping at the adjoining Premier Inn, we decided to take advantage of a meal in The Hobbs Boat. Upon arrival we were greated by the manager/owner (assuming) who showed us to our table, and we were assigned our waitress Lauren. Both were polite, friendly and down to earth. Food was fantastic. Starters, we had classic prawn cocktail and tempura prawn (both pictured), followed by lasagne and chicken forestiere. We had taken advantage of the meal deal incorporation with Premier Inn which included a starter or dessert with main, and breakfast the following day for £23.99 pp. Once in the restaurant, if you wished to make it a 3 course, it was just an additional £2 pp. A drink was also included. I feel this deal is great value. A kids 3 course meal is £4.99, again fantastic value. The restaurant was really warm (still mid 20s outside) but the staff were battling through and are a absolute credit. If/when we are back down this area again, I wouldnt hesitate to repeat this evening. In summary beautiful food + great hosts = a lovely night out. Thank you!!

We booked a table for 19:15 but arrived about half an hour early and it wasn't an issue. We were greeted by a lovely smiling waitress called Millie who showed us to our table and took a drinks order from us. Let me just say that everything was amazing, to be honest! All the staff were happy, everyone's three course meal was beautiful, the grill items were perfectly cooked (and I like my steak rare/blue). I love a nice Guinness and that was a beautiful pint. The atmosphere was cheerful and relaxed, everything seemed to run like a well oiled machine, oh and there was a fantastic gentleman on the team too, and he was so happy (everyone was) and we had some great banter. One of the party lives in Weston Super Mare and all but one live in Devon, so we will most definitely be returning for our meet ups! This was a special night for us and you guys made it all the more enjoyable. Thank you ♥️

A series of little issues, but when you add them all up, it doesn't make me feel that we'd return again.

Upon arrival 2 members of staff tried to find our booking but seemed to have difficulty despite me having a confirmation email when I booked it on 30th Jan, and a reminder email yesterday. They eventually took us to a table, but I was made to feel like I was lying about my booking!

No-one asked if we had any food allergies, although other tables were asked when they were seated, and I thought this was standard practice now.

When my son's meal arrived it should've had corn on the cob and veggie sticks as the 2 sides, but the corns were missing. When I asked for them the waitress said he'd got his 2 sides as it had been put through as fries and veggie sticks. The menu clearly states the burger comes with fries + 2 sides, and when I explained that she said "fine, but they'll take a while". No apology for their oversight.

My husband asked for vinegar, not realising that it was already on the table, and she said "that's on the table" in a very abrupt, rude tone.

Half way through my meal I realised I hadn't got the bread and butter that came with the fish and chips, but due to the response we'd already had with the missing corn, I didn't bother asking, although it would've been tricky as no-one came to ask if everything was OK with our meals and there were no waitresses nearby.

When I asked for the bill I mentioned the missing bread and butter, and again no apology, just a "oh OK I'll take it off your bill then". And when the bill came, it hadn't been taken off!

So all in all, not a great experience. One or 2 niggles or oversights you can accept, but not this many. And for no apologies to be given for their errors and oversights is unacceptable. There was no warmth or friendliness from the staff and we almost felt like an inconvenience. It's a shame as the food was really nice and we would've had desserts and coffees, but just wanted to leave at that point. And we won't be returning...

This was a first trip out for my mother (in her 80's), after the latest lockdown and she was a bit nervous. The layout has changed but only slightly, with screens to shield some tables close to the door. We hadn't booked (it was lunchtime about 1pm), but fortunately they had a couple of tables available. My mother is partially sighted and I asked if we could have the brightest lit table available and I think they moved a reservation to accommodate us. We ordered from the 'two mains for £8.99'and I thought the portions would be slightly smaller than from main menu. That was definitely not the case! Mum had the Smothered Chicken (Sorry no pictures) and the plate was huge and full. I may have helped her with the chips but she did well with rest which is amazing as she normally has the appetite of a bird. She said the chicken was beautifully tender and very flavoursome. I had the chilli not carne and that was a smallish portion but suitably filling. Just as well as were then able to have pudding, Belgian waffle for me and ice cream for mum.

All the staff we spoke to were very friendly and courteous. The service was in no way rushed but neither did we feel forgotten. It was easy to catch the waitresses attention when we wanted another drink, even though she wasn't looking at us, she must have a sixth sense.

All in all a very pleasant visit and it did a lot to boost mum's confidence in going back out. Thank to...
