It pains me to give a low rating as I really enjoy the food and drink from here, however the service is a bit lacking which really lets it down. Beautiful surroundings, really enjoy sitting outside but it could be so much better.
There is a young chap who only wears his mask over his mouth and is the slowest moving barista known to man. He can have a crowd waiting for drinks but still stop and take time to just stand still and look around, study the ceiling and slowly pick things up to make coffees and drinks. Instead of getting on and making coffees despite a long queue he waited doing absolutely nothing as a colleague checked in the back for a gingerbread man to top a coffee (start making another order while you wait surely???). I’m not expecting the efficiency of Starbucks here (who at least have some energy about them) but my receipt showed the time I ordered and there is a digital clock behind the till. All he had to make after his gingerbread lattes, were two oat milk coffees before he got to my two drinks (I know this because I watched his slow movements with eagerness) and the time it took from ordering to picking my drinks up off the counter was 19 minutes. I don’t visit the hollies to stand at the counter for almost 20 minutes.
It is not the first time that I’ve brought my food/drink out to my waiting family and said “it’s lovely here but wow they are slow”.
Again, it’s a shame because the drinks are delicious and the food/cakes wonderful and I know most of the staff are lovely.
Only other comments are that I’d really appreciate a place where you could pick up some napkins, extra sugars, stirrers, etc. We always need a napkin but never have one and there doesn’t appear to be anywhere to get them. Also some labels on the cakes to say what they are and prices (including allergy info) the cashier/barista can rarely hear what you are asking/saying when you are trying to shout over a coffee machine, through a plastic screen...
Read moreDisappointing! It would appear that the Hollies has developed into complacency. This is a pity since it was, at one time, a very pleasant place to both eat and shop. It is now too big and caters for the more well-heeled Cheshire set - and its prices reflect its ambitions. On this occasion we had breakfast. Eggs Benedict for her -- no complaints, but rather ordinary for the price, and overloaded with bread - veggie breakfast for me. It was warm, none of it hot (I lie, the pot of beans were not bad!) and it had the sad pallor of food which had been standing for some time. Not surprisingly since we had been waiting longer than most would think acceptable. The fried eggs had gone hard. She had finished her coffee and needed another! Isn't it annoying when the food arrives after your drink is long gone? Had I not been so hungry, it would have gone back. In fairness to the Hollies, I have had little to complain about in the past though I do resent paying such prices for what is not very special food. And the staff are very well trained, polite and attentive, and it's not their fault if the kitchen struggles to cope! It was not busy, which might have been a...
Read moreReally disappointing experience at the hollies today having been a loyal customer and visiting for many many years.
Every aspect was disappointing. The service was extremely slow. There were no vegan food options available (had been available previously). We ordered an oat milk cappuccino and a normal milk cappuccino. The barista couldn't remember which coffee was which (which was a problem due to food allergy) and the coffees we were given were essentially like white americanos with no froth on top at all (not a cappuccino by a long shot).
The ciabatta sandwiches were dry and very overpriced. Really disappointing and underwhelming - especially since we have had such delicious food on every other occasion at the hollies.
The cake was dry and tasteless, and since the severs cut the portion of cake, we were given a slice that in this case was thankfully only two...
