Self described as a Bistro Cafe and located on a working beef farm next to a Norman church, the name was a no-brainer according to Karen Mattick, the proprietess.

Established in 2015, success has been exponential. For cyclists and walkers during the summer, it's the go-to place, and recommendations have spread further than the local area.

Home made almost everything (bread and sausage rolls excepted) the menu has many original features - this reviewer chose the B.A.T. Sandwich 'An improvement on a breakfast classic - bacon, avacado & tomato with a (tadge) of tabasco'

Mostly light bites and soft drinks, although there is a limited range of alcoholic beverages.

The staff are clearly customer focused and attentive but not intrusive, wearing smart company tops.

On sunny days, the large grassy outside area with a fine view of the two stage Norman style tower, which dates from circa 1460 and contains twelve bells.

The ambience is casual and relaxed. There are sofas for those who just want to tea-and-talk even though, being on the Duchy Estate, King Charles (then Prince) came to visit...

Now our regular, week after week, this place ticks all the boxes. Great menu, both breakfast and lunch. Having been to so many cafes and been disappointed over the years, it’s refreshing to leave HC happy and ‘full-filled’ every time. All the staff are super friendly and accommodating to dietary requirements. We especially want to thank Debbie who continues to go above and beyond, making us feel welcome as you would a friend, and never phased by what some would find to be awkward requests. Sitting outside by the church and farm animals view in the summer/autumn was a delight. We have a favourite table indoors for the winter now, it has a lovely view of the cows in the fields. It really is the perfect spot for all seasons. Looking forward to bringing family and friends to the new local soon, so they can see what all the fuss is about. There is something for everyone on food and drinks menu, really delicious and don’t get me started on the incredible cakes! Big thanks to you all, we’ll see you for brunch very soon (probably tomorrow)!...

Booking advised! I brought my friend to this little gem of a place this morning, en route to Downside Abbey. It was absolutely packed with happy diners, so we were grateful that the lady found us a spot upstairs on a comfortable sofa. The menus had plenty on offer, including a couple of specials. We both had the toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches with crisps, served on a chopping board which looked great. The bread was superb, the cheddar of excellent quality being slightly sharp and full-flavoured. The outer sides also had cheese toasted onto them which was a nice touch. Our drinks were also delish! I had a Mocca and my friend the Deluxe Hot Chocolate which was generously topped with squirty cream and marshmallows aplenty! The place was spotlessly clean too. Car parking on site. I advise that you book though, as we very nearly unable to dine. I believe the pricing is reasonable, taking the "you get what you pay for" - excellent quality produce. Highly recommended and I'd happily make the 45 minute...

Superb breakfast. Was recommended The Holy Cow by my sister during a visit to Wells, so we stopped by on our way home. We both had the Veggie Delight, and what a delight it was! Fried (or poached) egg, grilled tomato, mushroom, halloumi, wilted spinach, baked beans, home-made hash browns and home-made cranberry and pumpkin seed toasted spelt. All freshly made to order, this ain't no fast food outlet, but a really good example of what a cafe breakfast should be like. We were tempted to share some pancakes for a breakfast dessert, but we abstained. Will have to go back for a revisit next time we are in Somerset to try them out. The prices aren't any different to most places these days, just better food. We couldn't resist taking away a couple pieces of cake. Both gorgeous. Highly recommended. Thank you The Holy Cow team.
