The Journeyman Restaurant - Mellingey Mill - St Issey - North Cornwall 16/02/17.

The car park is on rough ground and badly lit, and there is some distance to walk to the restaurant which includes a couple of steps, so not too good for those with any form of mobility issues. There is adequate parking for the small number catered for at any one time. The restaurant was lit with candles providing an atmospheric ambience. However the heating was barely adequate to cope with drafts on a February evening. I ordered a red Thai chicken curry with special Thai rice which contained ginger, coconut and coriander. The chicken was marinated in an authentic spicy red curry and coconut sauce, with added kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, fresh basil and lemongrass, altogether a fabulous taste sensation. My wife being a fish eater, though somewhat allergic to prawns, substituted salmon in a very satisfying Thai green curry with homemade green curry paste,Thai ginger,Kaffir lime leaves and fish sauce, finished with fresh basil and coconut milk, together producing an exquisite blend of flavours. We chose to drink the Cobra beer, (our preference with spicy food), finishing off with coffee. There is a very good wine and spirit list and ample choice of starters and desserts for those that want them. There is such a difference between generic Indian/ Asian restaurants, and restaurants like the journeyman, where every single dish was prepared according to individual requirements. There is a lovely variety of authentic Indian and Nepalese curries, in addition to Thai curries, Indonesian Rending and a few chinese dishes. Everything was absolutely beautiful and the freshness of the spices really came through.

The young lady who served us was incredibly kind, friendly and accommodating and was very happy to offer some tips and recommendations of things to see and do in the local area.

The chef was also friendly and helpful.

Booked here after reading the great reviews, so was very excited has we love trying different curry restaurants we arrived early hoping to have a drink before unfortunately there is no where .so went straight to our table, it a funny little place very small only a handful of tables and quite dark inside with no Atmosphere .The Food was disappointing oredered the prawn jelfrazi Lamb Madras pilau rice & nan bread the pilau rice was nice didn't enjoy the prawn curry the lamb was ok the nan bread was under cooked and not very enjoyable you sit eat your food and go so your not in very long.
