It was easy to find in a lovely little village, perfectly placed for all the things we wanted to do. We arrived when the pub itself was shut, but the room had been left open so we could get in. As a result, we didn't really have a proper welcome, which was fine, but just felt a bit weird. The staff were very friendly though, and happy to help us out when we needed some extra bits and bobs. Great room and very comfy beds. It was a little dark in the tea and coffee corner, so it would probably benefit from some extra lighting as the main 'big' light was quite weak. There were a few tea bags and coffee sachets, but no milk, not even UHT pots. The pub was closed when we arrived, so we couldn't ask in there. We managed to buy a pint from the farm shop close by, but then had nowhere to keep it cool as there was no fridge. A mini fridge or some UHT milk would therefore be a helpful addition. Also spent ages looking for the TV remote so the kids could relax after a busy day, but we couldn't locate one. We could use the buttons on the actual TV, but would have preferred a remote, especially when we got stuck with the subtitles on! The breakfast, which we enjoyed at the local farm shop cafe, was incredible. Very friendly and accommodating staff in there. In general, we would definitely recommend the Kings Arms as a place to stay and I can imagine that on a nice summer's day it would be a fabulous pub garden to enjoy a pint or two in (sadly, we visited in murky February). We would recommend staying on a Monday and popping in to the pub for a drink around 8ish as the local ukelele band get together and the atmosphere is...
Read moreWe went there for Mother's Day, and we have been asked to preorder our food a week in advance as it will be very busy due to the demand, etc., which we totally understood. Upon arriving there, there was our table and another 3 other...in the whole restaurant. Anyways, we have been asked if we would like something to drink, we said yes. 5 minutes afterwards, we have been told that the dessert that we preorder a week ago wasn't available... which, to some extent, was the whole reason that my Fiancé's mother would've loved the venue (they were doing cremé brulee) , apart from the idyllic scenery. Anyways, we ordered other desserts instead, but when they turned up, we were missing one, which we swiftly explained to one of the members of staff (I think that she was a manager), she said she would bring it right away. ~20 minutes later, and the dessert was nowhere to be seen. As a matter of fact, we finished ours. 5 minutes later, the manager (I believe) comes and brings the dessert, to which my fiancé in a respectful manner, said that she doesn't want it anymore as everyone has had theirs. To which, the reply was...OK...All in all, what I want to say is... the food was ok, the drinks, a bit overpriced for the area, but ok, the venue felt very authentic and idyllic, with a nice little stream flowing throughout the middle of the restaurant (the outside area), the service was appalling, like they didn't want to be there, but more importantly, everything that they were doing felt like a chore to them. It is a pity...as the place is really beautiful... They also messed up our bill, so we had a call that we owed them money...We...
