Turned up greated nicely in the pub and took to the beer garden, before we even looked at menu we were told a large number of items on the menu were unable to order as out of stock, the menu was poor, expensive with not a very large selection, No lightbite menu for a lunch time. Our order was taking forever , We waited over a hour and had drank our 1st drinks before we even recieved out Meals, baring in mind at this time it was not busy, My meal came out and my friends followed over 25 minutes later, and was all incorrect and had to be sent back to be changed and had to wait another 20 Minutes, I also had to send my chicken sandwhich back as it just tasted like I was eating a burnt sandwhich. The lady waitress was lovely couldn't be anymore apologetic and asked if we would like another drink, we also ordered a desert whilst still eating meal in hope that it wouldn't take aslong as our Mains, which still took over a hour and we had to ask again where it was, so we were offered another Drink, the male waiter came over and plonked the drinks down, we said thank you he didn't even acknowledge us or respond to us Thanking him and walked away. when the lady waitress brought our desserts, she apologized again and said I bet you sick of me apologising, as she had to a apologise about everything. she said the chef was struggling to do both main and desserts as he had orders of both therefore to me they need more staff, if he can't cope. The table next to us got Drinks, complained about there drinks ended up paying for them and leaving, they decided against food, I think they had witnessed our experience . I wouldn't hurry back the overall experience was dreadful, which is such a shame as the old menu and experience here last year was Fantastic. However the lady waitress who was on, is the only thing we can say was lovely and she...
Read moreNew management. New chef. New us.....this is what is advertised outside. However it's the same old! I get they were busy today with it being fathers day but there was severe lack of organisation. We were sat down at the table we booked but with the carvery being on the queue spiralled around the restaurant. For me this could have been cordoned off and the queue follow some sort of line rather than people standing on others backs. Then we get to ordering food, my wife wanted the prawn Marie rose salad with some extra salmon as she saw this was available. The waitress told her this wasn't possible as they were two different salads, I didn't realise there was a rule that you wernt allowed to make an easy request at adding to your meal and paying a little extra. Oh well, the nephew was the first to get his carvery as he was hungry, he then complained about the gravy tasting burnt....never heard this before but he was right. The waitress then told us someone else had already complained about that. We then saw a steak sizzler which one of us had ordered come out the kitchen, to subsequently return 5 mins later, I believe we then got this same dish 10 mins later as it wasn't sizzling anymore! That's all the while waiting an hour for our mains to arrive. Desserts were next, I ordered the aero sundae....which was advertised as chocolate sauce around a sundae glass with ice cream, aero and more chocolate sauce. What i got was a dollop of chocolate sauce at the bottom with ice cream and aero balls. Awful! The poor kids who were doing the serving were running around with little guidance making it chaos. Organise your restaurant and you will be on...
Read moreDespite being issued with a key, the door to the hotel entrance would not open after it was locked after 11pm. Consequently, when I returned to the hotel at 01:30 after visiting relatives in the village, I could not gain entry. I was very fortunate that my relatives could accommodate me on their floor that night (ironically, the main reason for choosing this hotel was to visit relatives living in Lanchester but who didn’t have a spare room to accommodate me). I hate to think what I (or anyone else put in this situation) would or could have done had I not had relatives close by to fall back on. When I returned to the hotel the following morning at 7:30, I could still not gain entry until the landlord arrived 20 minutes later and had to force the door open. Despite humble apologies from the landlord and a promise to refund my stay for that night, three weeks on from this traumatic incident I have not been compensated, as the landlord was not present on the morning of my departure and has not responded to a written message with my contact details handed to a member of his staff and two phone calls to the property answered by his staff. Either 3 different members of staff are not passing on my details or the landlord is ducking the issue. This is a real pity as the hotel itself was okay, but this incident, coupled with the lack of follow up to promised compensation has severely tarnished my opinion and review of this hotel. Whether I’m compensated or not, future customers please beware of the locked door. If you find yourself ‘locked out’, you will need to apply brute force to avoid a night on...
