(This is just a restaurant review)

The restaurant is very clean and decorated nicely. It gave a warm and inviting feeling which we really liked.

The food was absolutely delicious too. We ordered the burnt onion hummus and the lamb belly to share for starters. (Great combination by the way). Then we ordered the steak for mains and a fig pudding for dessert. All were great.

What was disappointing was the service. We overheard our waiter talking to the other table that it is his first week working here so we gave the benefit of a doubt and made no fuss.

The first thing was that me and my husband ordered a steak, both with peppercorn. Not sure why they only served one steak with peppercorn sauce so we waited a couple minutes for the sauce which is fine. But why was one sauce considerably paler than the other? When we finished our mains, the waiter asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. Of course we said yes! It only took 10 minutes until we were fed up of waiting so I got up to get the menu. Not sure how he forgot as the menu’s were on the bar and the bar wasn’t so far away. And it was NOT busy at all! There were about 4 other tables. I’m so confused on how he forgot even though he went near our table a couple times to check on us with nothing on the table and we saw him even looking for things to do.

Anyways when I got up to get the menu, he apologised which is fine because it’s his first week (he’s also a grown man who looks like he’s had experience but whatever) anyways, when he took our order, my husband ordered the fig pudding and I ordered a cappuccino with vanilla syrup. I saw him write it down but why did ONLY the fig pudding come? I was watching him and he wasn’t busy at all. My husband was almost done with his pudding and at that point I was really annoyed. Seriously, it’s drink with espresso and warm milk, how did the dessert come first and it was finished? Im just glad that the cappuccino wasn’t included in the bill because that would be ridiculous but I’m just so confused how I saw him write down cappuccino with vanilla syrup but not serve it!!

What’s also hilarious is that when we asked for the bill, he was so quick to give us the bill and when we paid, he asked ā€œhow was everything guys? Aside from the sauce being lateā€ I LOVE how he didn’t even remember to have the cappuccino served or that he left us waiting 10 minutes for a dessert menu.

Also the prices for the food were a bit pricey which we wouldn’t mind because we like supporting local and independent businesses but if the service is like this then it...

Firstly, very overpriced food given the quality of the food presented to us. It was a bit of a mixed bag. Out of our party of four, one had a starter and said it was delicious, if not a fairly tiny portion. For mains, there were two Pies of the Day, pleasant enough unexciting flavours , but not worth the Ā£20 price tag, and two ox cheek ā€˜wellingtons’. The pastry was dry and overcooked, almost burnt underneath, and the filling was bland and paste-like with an under-seasoned, tasteless gravy. Accompanied by a large pile of , again, underseasoned bland mashed potato, the star of the show was one glazed carrot. Two puddings were nicely executed and very tasty, whilst with the affogato the espresso was cold, so the end result was a cold slop.

Considering we only had 2.5 pints of beer between us, and four coffees, to have to pay £40 per head for an indifferent meal was steep. Service was included, but , although a pleasant enough young man, he was slow, with items arriving at intervals, forgetting orders and having to return, and the coffee arriving 10 minutes before the puddings. As service was added we did not have the option of giving what we thought fair. The restaurant was rather cool, albeit on a cold day, and lacked character. All-in-all, a disappointing lunch and we will not be returning or recommending...

I picked this inn at random based on the fact that it accepted dogs so didn't really know what to expect. It was excellent. When we arrived for our two night stay we took advantage of the lovely spring sunshine and sat in the courtyard with drinks and a late lunch. Our room (they are all located round the car park with individual entrances) was lovely. A radio was playing music, lovely toiletries and accessories (including the ubiquitous hand sanitizer in a little handbag size bottle), full minifridge and great rainfall shower. Dinner was as good as lunch and breakfast was one of the best we have ever had in any hotel. The staff are wonderful, stopping when they had the time, to interact with our two dogs who were allowed in all areas of the inn. There is an open kitchen and, after service is finished, the chef and his team provide a great floor show as they dance to their music during clean-down. The management have requested feedback with any ideas for improvement. so - this is me being very picky. Since it is so dog friendly, it might be an idea to have a poo bag bin in the car park or a sign showing that there is a bin further along into the village at the bus stop. If we are ever back in the area we shall certainly make this our first choice...

Gorgeous bedroom (we stayed in one called "Dundry") with comfy bed and lots of space in it, and classy bathroom (no bath, but 2 fancy shower-heads). Very nicely-stocked mini- bar, with a complimentary drink offered, when we were shown to our room - a lovely touch! On arrival, the barman/maĆ®treD/Manager checked us in - he was so friendly yet totally professional and welcoming. He was also working in the morning, serving us breakfast, and fixing our shower/hot water - it's as if nothing was too much trouble for him, and he did everything with a huge smile, to make sure we had a lovely stay.... The food - Wow!! In the evening, we had short rib of beef and duck breast - both really yummy and cooked just right, with an incredible sticky toffee pudding after (with crunchy toasted pecans on!!) For breakfast (included) the full English was perhaps the best I've ever had (all food ingredients are sourced locally from tasty producers/farms!) - even with home-made jumbo baked beans; my wife had poached eggs, avocado and smoke troat - which she also raved about. Good coffee, sourdough toast, and grapefruit juice. We will definitely be returning, asap!!! Highly recommended, charming place šŸ˜€

Went for a Sunday roast, the pub itself is lovely, beautifully set out and looked like there was a fantastic beer garden to the rear. The roast was fine, but on the higher end from a price point and so expected it to be perfect, which it wasn't. Cauliflower cheese was delicious and cheesy, the veg was all nice. But the beef was tough, it was cooked rare. Which is fine as long as the meat is tender but unfortunately it wasn't, I had to ask for a steak knife to be able to cut it. It was extremely busy and the serving team were a little stretched, it took around 20 minutes from ordering a drink for it to arrive, but I put this down to a busy service. I would definitely give it another go and expect in the summer it would be an amazing place to spend an afternoon in the sun, but for the price point both service and food need to be spot on. Which unfortunately wasn't the case on this occasion.
