This appears to have both changed in ownership and increased in popularity since I last visited.
There were cars parked along the road nose-to-tail along the road around it, and this was on a Sunday. It has a very small carpark of its own, but there's no way that can cope by itself. As it's in a small village with limited roads, nobody seems to mind, and there aren't any other business to obstruct, except possibly the village hall and a farm, but they're far enough away to be unaffected.
Secure bicycle parking is tricky (it is a village), so you have to improvise. I locked mine to an open gate, but that probably wouldn't be helpful in the evenings.
The obvious popularity is new, for this Pub.
The interior has been enhanced, showing off the architecture instead of hiding it as before, and they've opened up more of the interior. There's less bar area and more seating, and it's much more open-plan.
The venue seems to have switched from local drinking, to wider dining-in, and definitely shines on hot Summer Sundays.
It's remarkably peaceful there: I was suffering from a panic attack (largely invisible to observers), and stopped there to calm down while I broke out the beta blockers. It was so calm there, that the adrenaline problem resolved without needing drugs - this is the ideal way, but it doesn't happen often.
They have some seating out front in the carpark, and much more on a lawn at the rear. There are more doors between the interior and outside, than you would expect for such a small place, and this contributes to the feeling of openness, and doubtless the lack of queuing too.
There are various quirks of decor, such as imitation stuffed animals in surprising places, eg a ferret...
Read moreMy wife and i went to the Langley tap many times in the past and had wonderful meals, sadly without us being aware, three months ago new owners took over, our most recent meal there was awful,it was my wifes birthday and i wanted it to be so nice, once given the menu we knew things had changed ! Very limited choice,a mexican dish and a Indian dish (in a English country pub) no starters at all (what pub that serves food does not offer starters ?) top end prices for a English country pub meal, but very poor quality and poorly cooked food,Both our meals although completely different, came served in a super over rich sauce and mine was so salty it was like swimming in the sea with my mouth open,we did not have dessert as it they were expensive and likely to be as poor as the main meal, all in all a terrible expensive experience and we shall never go back and they charged me £4.20 for a half and half shandy, noticeably more than a pint of bear or lager yet half of it was Lemonade, very very poor all round,it was a £25 cheap chain restaurant meal, that cost me nearly...
Read moreOnce a year I'll head down to Wiltshire to visit the family, we always go for dinner at the Langley Tap, A hidden Gem in the heart of Wiltshire. A cosy little pub with quirky decor, the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about the locally sourced menu. We had booked on a busy Saturday night, the place had a good buzz about it, the staff coped with ease managing all the tables. I started with Pheasant Bon Bon's with frizee leaves and grain mustard creme, just the right ratio of meat to potato in each perfectly formed ball, lovely and crispy on the outside. For the main course two of us had the Pork Chop with braised red cabbage and dauphinoise potatoes, Wow!!!! 👌 It will probably be one of the best dishes I'll eat this year, the Chop was perfectly seasoned with a good amount of fat that had been sealed in the pan, the red cabbage was sweet and savoury with a hit of vinegar and star anise. Book ahead to avoid disappointment, Returned on 14th Aug 2025, again faultless food,...
