Bit of a flop really.

Went for Mother’s Day, expecting a nice meal with good atmosphere and good food. After checking out other reviews, it looked like a great place to go.

First problem was that the ‘Mother’s Day menu’ was pretty boring. Nothing special that you might expect for the day.

Then, after finally placing order after another long time for us to even get our menus, it took about 30-45 minutes for our starters to arrive. Starters were nice, but took a very long time to arrive compared to other places we’ve been to.

Secondly, it took a total of 2 hours from us first arriving, to finally get our mains (kept an eye on the clock). Arrived about 1:10pm, got our mains at 3:07pm. Mains were mediocre. Fish had black bits on, chips were burnt, and mushy peas were sloppy. The kind of meal you’d expect at either a Weatherspoons or somewhere similar; for a lot cheaper. Not a highly rated village pub. Plus, my step-daughter’s chicken nuggets & chips were the same quality as frozen ones you can just knock up at home in the oven. Left her upset and just wanted to go home. You’d get better fish & chips from your local chippy; which is definitely better value for money.

A couple of us had ordered a pudding but we just left after having only half of our mains cause we didn’t fancy waiting till the evening for finishing our visit to finish.

To add to all this, it wasn’t even busy in terms of customers that came for a meal etc. So no idea why it took so long. Plus, a family who came in after us, got their food first.

End of the day, it’s a huge shame because the pub is very nice and clean, and well decorated etc. Looks like a place that could do great food. But it’s clearly more a place where you just go to get drunk with your mates; that’s the main focus in my opinion. Food is just something on the side that’s there if you want something.

Plus, someone was in there with a tablet on their table, watching a video on full blast. Which left us having to shout to talk to each other.

All in all, definitely wouldn’t recommend the food there. But if you want to go get hammered, hope you enjoy. Receipt wasn’t even written properly. Listing items that we didn’t order in the first place.

Very disappointed, and won’t be returning.

My impression is that “They’ve paid for their food, doesn’t matter to me if it was s* or not, we’ve been paid now so no longer...

We went out for a midweek treat for our tea we ordered really early 4.15pm as we went with our toddler. We sat outside in the sun so he could enjoy the park area and we were told we could order food and they would bring it out to us well We were still waiting an hour later when my husband went to ask they apologised and said 5minutes by this point my little boy was moaning he was starving after another 15minutes he went back again the lady apologised again and said it was on its way.

When we finally got our food it was clear it had been sat under the light in the kitchen a while but because my little boy was starving we had our tea. The food was nice warm not hot my husbands battered fish had gone soggy with being sat in the kitchen waiting for someone to bring it out. I had the special sandwich it was filled with grease again it contained melted cheese if had sat there a while and all the grease had oused out from the cheese. My little boys chicken nuggets were nice though he ate the lot so overall it was disappointing and we won't rush to return. They did offer us a round of drinks for how long we had waited but by this point we just wanted to eat and leave as we had our little boy with us. We understand that Everyone gets short staffed from time to time but atleast let your customers know...

Me and my partner ate here on a Sunday, we asked about availability on facebook messenger and recieved a quick response to say they had booked us in, the pub/restaurant is very nice inside clean, traditional with a modern feel, we were greeted by a lady at the bar who quickly seated us and was attentive throughout our dining, she didnt get in our face during eating which was nice as we were able to enjoy our food with each course.

The food was great! My partner had prawn cocktail, steak and chips. I had a feta starter and mixed meat roast and we both had the brownie with icecream (or you can have cream). My food was delicious the meat was juicy, the Yorkshire was crispy, the veg was cooked perfectly not mushy but firm it was cauliflower cheese, sugar snap peas, carrots and red cabbage which are served on the side, I would say the roasts could of been crispy-er, I had some hidden skin on potatoes which were lovely but ablot with the roasts together, gravy topped it off nicely.

The brownie was more of a chocolate cake than brownie but still very tasty, moist and chocolatey! With a chocolate sauce.

My feta starter was light, crispy on a bed of rocket salad and balsamic glaze delicious.

We ended out evening in the seated bar area with a guiness and hot choc baileys. Friendly atmosphere with...

We arrived for our reservation at 1:15 we had to wait for ages to even get a menu and when we received it, it was very dull. If I'd have seen it before hand I wouldn't of booked a table at all. I did email the pub and sent a message to their fbk page asking for a menu but had no response. We didn't receive our starters till 30 minutes after we ordered them and our mains took nearly 2 hours. I am heavily pregnant and we also had a child with us. We eventually left at 3:30pm and left nearly all of our food as it was pretty awful. The chips were completely burnt the fish was soggy, my MIL said her food had no taste and her partner said his food was nothing special. When we enquired where our food was we got told its coming. 20mins later it eventually did. They even tried to charge us for a dessert we never had. Whilst in the dining room a pig ignorant man decided to watch football on full volume on his tablet and his friend was talking and swearing loudly. Yet it seemed perfectly acceptable to the staff. Just an absolute joke. Thank you for ruining our mothers day Lawton arms, we now ordering a takeaway for tea as we have barely eaten.
