We came across this gem whilst returning from our break to North Devon and we’re grateful we took the opportunity to stop in. We were greeted by Jason the owner and his very friendly and helpful staff , it’s easy to feel anxious when far from home entering a public house but my family and myself were made to feel at ease immediately. We were informed about our seating options and given it was a hot day we chose to sit in the beautiful Willow Garden but not before having a sneak peek of the Secret Garden offering a more shaded option. Our children loved the willow garden and the space offered to them to allow them to have a run around. We settled down for dinner, my wife opting for the Sea bass fillet with garlic, chilli and ginger oil stir fry with veg and fries from the specials menu and I choosing the Bacon and cheddar burger. We were both very impressed by the quality and the great tasting food. My wife even called her sister to tell her that she’d made a mistake in choosing to go for typical service station fast food over a great tasting meal. The burger made with locally sourced produce was the best burger I’d had in a long time. We’re both disappointed that we live 2.5 hours away from the Lime Kiln Inn but will make sure we stop in again should we be passing through again. Thank you to Jason and his staff for an amazing meal made even better by the friendliness of the staff. We understand that Jason has taken the reigns since December but recommend any locals to go back to this once struggling pub to appreciate the change. The Lime Kiln Inn is in the best hands!

From the moment we arrived at The Lime Kiln Inn, we were welcomed with the kind of warmth and genuine hospitality that’s become so rare these days. Nestled in the beautiful Somerset countryside, this charming family pub and restaurant offers everything you could want for a perfect meal out—whether you’re with family, friends, or just looking for a relaxing bite in a cozy setting. The atmosphere is spot-on: inviting, rustic, and full of character, with just the right touch of modern flair. It’s clear that every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from the beautifully set tables to the friendly, down-to-earth staff who made us feel like regulars from the get-go. The food? Absolutely top-notch. We enjoyed a Sunday roast that was honestly one of the best we’ve had—succulent meats, fluffy roast potatoes, rich gravy, and Yorkshire puddings that were crisped to perfection. The kids’ menu wasn’t an afterthought either; it was full of delicious, well-portioned options that even our fussiest eater loved. And the desserts? The sticky toffee pudding and locally inspired specials were out of this world. What sets The Lime Kiln Inn apart isn’t just the quality of the food or the lovely surroundings—it’s the sense of community and care that radiates from everyone who works there. You don’t just eat here; you feel genuinely looked after. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. The Lime Kiln Inn is an absolute must-visit for anyone looking for great food, great service, and a heartwarming experience in the heart of Somerset.

My wife and I stopped by on our way home from London tonight. It was our first visit, I go past a lot but never had the time to pop in for a meal, tonight we resolved that. We were met at the door by a polite lady, I didn't get a name as there were no formal introductions, I don't volunteer my name as I find it spoils the experience once an establishment realizes who I am. We were shown through to the restaurant and a drink order was taken as the kitchen was not open for a few more minutes. We had dined rather heavily in London and I was only looking for a sandwich to keep the old blood sugars up, but alas there were none on the menu. The sign outside said traditional English menu, but I could find no scampi either and as my followers know, I do love my scampi.... We nearly went for the gammon, egg and chips but it was unclear if this was a gammon steak or gammon ham - so we went off piste and ordered something we have never had, breaded whitebait and chunky chips. The meal was swiftly prepared and brought out within 5-7 minutes and was very well presented and looked delicious. Turns out that we really do not like whitebait, it had lots of bones and spines and was quite an oily fish, my hands still smell of fish now and the cats won't leave me alone, they think I'm some kind of tasty treat! This is not a reflection of the Line Kiln or the staff, they were lovely and the premises was awesome, it just wasn't "our meal", We will return and try the gammon, egg and chips however

We have been regular visitors of the Lime Kiln since before lockdown, and until now we have had no reason to make a complaint. Upon the re-opening we were excited to return to a regular pub of ours - we have made 2 visits, and both of these have proved disappointing for us. Our first visit was obviously getting used to the new app service (ordering from the app, and being delivered to our table), we were sat in the beer garden...our first order went through seamlessly and our drinks were delivered within 5 minutes, our 2nd order however did not, we waited for 30 minutes until my partner said she was going to check, the lady at the bar said that they hadn't received any orders, however when she went to check the ticket machine there were a few 'receipt orders' waiting on the reel, bearing in mind there were others waiting too. We decided that it was staff getting used to the system, as we and gave the benefit of the doubt. We returned a week later, again sat in the beer garden and ordered 2 drinks and a side of chips - our drinks arrived swiftly, however we waited approx 1 hour for our chips, by which time we had ordered another round of drinks...I went into the pub to ask what had happened, and was told that the order hadn't gone through to the kitchen, at which point I was brought a measly portion of chips. Our drinks then got delivered and my pint glass had a lipstick stain around it; obviously I returned the said drink to the bar to ask for a new one and was told that even though there was lipstick on my glass, everything was sterilised in the dishwasher- but how was I supposed to know that? I was not prepared to take the risk with COVID-19. The manager overheard this confrontation and came out offering us a refund, however we have not received anything and this was now 2 weeks ago. We shall not be returning to this establishment, especially when we only visit for drinks and they take up to an...

So we booked in weeks ago for a family get together before Xmas. This is our second year and we should have learnt by now that they can't cope with large parties. All of our meals came out at different times, children were left til last - 25 minutes later at that. The order regardless of being repeated twice was in correct leading to additional stress for the staff and us as a family. The portion size for a traditional roast dinner was like a game of spot the difference. My nieces, daughter and son all ordered children's roasts and there wasn't any difference in size. Some plates had all the veg choice and one only had a carrot (that meaning one). An adult meal only had 2 slices of meat and three potatoes which mirrored the children's, disgraceful! After numerous complaints to an already stressed waitress who was trying her up most to solve the issues the puddings again arrived sporadic. In my opinion children should always be served first it's common sense. My daughters roast arrived 25 minutes after mine. This is not OK! The booking had been in place for months so surely additional staff should have been put in place if required. Instead we had an inexperienced waiter who got a dressing down from another waitress right in front of our party. Demoralising as he'd only been working there 2 weeks. The landlord walked past our table on several occasions and not once did he offer his apologies for the incompetence. It is not cheap to eat here and not one person left feeling it was a positive experience. It took 3 hours to complete our incredibly stressful meal. Never again! I don't deny they didn't charge for the children's meal but the bill still came just short of £300 and it was an awful experience yet again due to poor organisation and communication. I would definitely not visit again, it wasn't even that busy. I dread to think if it was, we'd still be...

We have had so many smashing meals over the years at The Lime Kiln but after lunch on Sunday there will be no more. It was one of my go-to pubs, good choice of food, plenty of it, excellent service and good atmosphere. After the death of my husband a few months ago I was kindly taken by my extended family, (6) to celebrate my 70th birthday. We were put into the characterless little side room, although there didn't seem to be that amount of clients in. When our starters, eventually, arrived we thought the portions a bit smaller than usual, but the main course......... I cannot remember when I last had a meal out when the vegetables had already been hidden,( sorry, placed) on my plate. A quarter of a large carrot, a pinch of very wet kale. Pathetic. Luckily I had ordered chips otherwise I too could have got two miserly pieces of potato the others had. When we asked about vegetables the, possibly new waitress, said she didn't know because she hadn't taken the order. We asked if she would check for us and never saw her again. The pies were well filled but very dry, gravy boats didn't give us enough really. I know about pie making. I used to make and sell up to 500 various meat handmade pies a week. Unbeknownst to me my sister had bought in a cake to be served for dessert but because of being stuck in the side room it was 25+minutes, even after someone going out to ask for service, before it was brought in and then we had to ask for cutlery and napkins. Looking at the menu the prices were too high for what we received. We were discussing our disappointment when the people on the next table turned round and said " that's just what we have said. We've always enjoyed coming for a meal here, but we won't be coming back." Its always a shame to know a pub has gone downhill but, .I'm sorry to say I will also not...
