It was such a shame the service we received during our stay was so shocking as the pub and rooms are beautiful. We had booked a nights stay for our friends wedding just down the road. We were advised when emailing the pub a couple of weeks before that we wouldn’t be able to get into our room, but we could use the facilities to get changed and leave our bags to be taken to our room. Which we understood. After a 3 hour journey, we arrived explained the situation and we were shown the disabled toilet to get changed. When asking to check in and leave our bags we were informed by the staff that they would get the manager to do this for us. 45 mins later, still no manager and when asking the staff they said that they had text him. We wanted a soft drink before leaving and my husband had to open the bottom of Pepsi himself as the staff couldn’t work the bottle opener, concerning! Our transport to take us to the wedding arrived and still no manager, so we had to leave our bags in the car and not check in. There were other guests, who were attending the same wedding who had to do the same thing. One of the guests called the managers out of hours telephone number at around 11am and was advised that if we called the number when we got back, he would come and let us in/check us in. Arriving back from the wedding at 1am, freezing cold, we had to call the out of hours number 14 times before we got a response. At this stage we thought we were going to be charged £150 to sleep in the car park. Then they could not find our booking, which was not what we wanted to hear at nearly 1:30am. When we finally got a key and checked in, with no apology for any inconvenience caused the room was beautiful. Disappointing experience to say...
Read moreWe stayed at The Lion at Malpas as a group of 12 for 1 night and it did not disappoint! After looking for group accommodation in the area and not having much luck, we opted for separate rooms at the Lion.
We didn't really know what to expect but when we arrived we couldn't get over how beautiful the pub and rooms were! lots of lovely plants throughout the pub garden and outside the rooms and to top it off there was an acoustic singer playing.
We had 5 rooms in total, each room was super clean and tastefully decorated. The rooms were nestled in a very cute garden area, separate to the pub with a lovely little seating area/bistro set outside most rooms.
We were celebrating an occasion so managed to book an area in the pub which was perfect for what we needed! We ordered a selection of small plates for dinner as well as fizz and a fair few cocktails. The food & drinks were fab and great value for money! We had breakfast the following morning and asked if we could sit outside. When we came down for breakfast the table was set and we all enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the sun.
The staff were excellent! Everyone was super friendly and on hand if we needed anything. As we were celebrating an occasion, I had a few things that I wanted to organise in advance - Tia & the team were great and very accommodating.
I would highly recommend the Lion at Malpas, everyone enjoyed their stay and it was great value for money! A hidden gem!
Thank you Tia and team for a...
Read moreA lovely warm welcome from Lisa on arrival set the tone for the weekend. Check in was smooth and informative and it was nice to be shown to our rooms which are in a separate purpose built block adjacent to the pub. ||The rooms are spotless, well equipped with drinks and snacks and nice and warm too. The bathrooms were a good size and again spotless, a heated towel rail and nice fluffy towels. They had underfloor heating although mine baffled me! The showers are super and lots of hot water, ||Very comfortable beds and good pillows made for a relaxing night's sleep and the thick curtains kept out most of the light except for a small glow from the patio lights. Soundproofing was very good with minimal sound from other guests.||The restaurant is very comfortable and the menu gives a good choice. Add to this a number of local beers and a large range of wines and you are onto a winner. There are two sections to the restaurant and much thanks goes to Chloe(?) for moving us to the quiet section away from a rather loud family group! Can fully recommend the Sunday roast too and the breakfasts are a joy to wake up to. ||Overall a very nice place to stay and with a good sized car park too an on road parking if needed The Lion can be fully recommended and we are looking forward to returning...
