Came for lunch with a family member who has just had a baby. Our first obstacle was actually getting into the building. From the car park there are three sets of stairs that you have to negotiate. So with me hobbling down with my stick while the Mr helped with the pram, we must have looked pretty interesting trying to get in. We did ask if there was a more accessible way out, but we were met with uncertainty. Nice to see there is a wheelchair friendly toilet, but good luck getting it down the stairs! We chatted for a bit, and eventually we decided on a light bite for lunch and we all had a sandwich - more precisely a baguette. I know times are difficult for everyone right now, and that you have to factor in wages, electricity, gas, rates etc into your prices, but my £12.50, yes you read that right, cheese and tomato baguette was not worth the money. When you consider a small portion of battered haddock and chips is the same price - and fish isn't cheap right now - I'd steer clear of the sarnies. It did come with some chunky chips, that were a little chewy in places, and a vague salad but none of this justified the price. It tasted ok... but if you can't get a cheese and tomato sandwich right, rethink your career. Decided to have dessert... That was a mistake. I opted for the carrot & walnut cake with spiced carrot puree and gingerbread crumble. The carrot cake was dry and hardly tasted of spice - if it hadn't been for the mascarpone cream it would have been difficult to swallow. The "puree" was just wet and lifeless. The gingerbread crumble, again, barely tastes of anything... Such a shame. We were with family so, for those of you that are shouting at the screen "why didn't you say something", I just thought it best to have a great time catching up, rather than moaning. Staff were great throughout, though, applause to them. Really helpful, checking for allergies etc. It looks fantastic from the outside, it's set in beautiful countryside... I just wish I'd had a better time with the food.

This was our first time to visit The Litton since their magnificent make-over. As it has been highly recommended by friends we choose this venue for our anniversary meal out. Even though we arrived a little bit early for our booking by accident we were made very welcomed and seated much sooner than expected. The menu was full of amazing starters and some unique mains as well. The vegetarian options were rather limited but we managed to pick some of those too. My crispy squid was not crispy but rather oilily. The soup of the day was delicious and warming. The meatless burger was sadly served right beside some purple coleslaw which soaked the bun unfortunately, we have tried a fair share of veggie/vegan burgers and the burger wasn't the tastiest of them of all either beside the soggy bun. I choose the Chicken Milanese which came with 2 perfectly cooked eggs which was pleasing to the eyes as well as to my tastebuds - with the add on of garlicy breading on the meat. The breading wasn't as thick we got used to with the Wiener Schnitzel it wasn't much there so it was far from the golden coating desired, but it was tasty and well cooked. Schnitzel is always a great choice if you are hungry and ready to demolish a full plate of food. Only one dessert was ordered, the dark chocolate and pecan slice- looked wonderful but did not taste what I expected. The cake was very rich and dry which was complemented by some flavourless cream, the only thing gave it a little sharp edge& deliciousness was the burnt sugary pecan triangles, those were mind-blowing. I was asked for my opinion on the dessert as I couldn't finish it and it was fed back to the chefs. The selection of drinks and the atmosphere was delightful - and since it's strongly dog friendly place, next time I'm definitely brining the dog,

This place is absolutely gorgeous. I loved everything about it, from the decor to the food and the waiting staff. I am coeliac, dairy free and veggie so eating out can be a real nightmare but not at The Litton! They were super helpful and knowledgeable and I was even able to eat dessert, which is a rare treat as I also don't eat chocolate so the usual gf brownies don't work for me. The pie I had was delicious and I could also have the gravy. I got to have 2 scoops of the most delicious sorbet (raspberry and mango) and the extras it came with (shortbread crumbs) were also gluten free, which made a nice change. I felt so safe eating there and that really means a lot because if I get glutened it is really rather unpleasant and takes a good few days to a week to recover from so being able to relax like that when eating out was a real gift. The Litton have a map of a little walk around the reservoir so we took a stroll and that was totally gorgeous too. The written instructions seem a little out of date so I would advise just looking at the map but it was breathtakingly gorgeous and had some fun stuff on the way like a little pool to paddle in and a double swing. Highly recommended - a perfect day out! PS Just wanted to update as I went again. Had a Sunday Roast with my friend and we both had the Nut Roast (doesn't say GF on the menu but it is). It was yummy but no GF Yorkshire pudding, which is a shame. I don't eat white potatoes so asked for more veg but just got a mound of cabbage so will specify more roast parsnips and carrots next time! Also, for me, not enough gravy but they were happy to give us a jug of extra. I had an alcohol free gin, which was delicious and felt like a nice treat 😁

The litton hotel was absolutely fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a hotel in the area here’s why;

The room - the room was absolutely beautiful. The rustic chic vibes matched the aesthetic of the building and environment. Everything was spotless clean. Fantastic rainfall shower the hotel also provided us with robes and slippers. Great attention to detail. The toiletries were also local to the area and luxurious. Although there is a bar downstairs our room was silent at night and made for an excellent sleep.

The food - the food was super. Tasty and well made. Me and my partner both had steak with peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked as per our request and the sauce was creamy. We also indulged in an after dinner treat via the Nutella doughnuts and again 5 stars fantastic. The alcoholic drinks were also something to comment on as again we both enjoys our strawberry daiquiri's. We also enjoyed our breakfast the following morning with a Selection of continental elements such as fresh fruit and yougurt followed with granola and jams not to forget to cooked breakfast. Myself I’m a picky eater and again the staff were exceptional when I made requests during our dining with them.

The staff - as per the note in the room the staff really will go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Quick service at the bar with a great atmosphere even if u wanted to just pop in for drinks. We ordered room service a couple times and again the staff were quick and ready to please with a great can do attitude to any request. Called us upon booking to ask if we had any special requirements and to thank us for our booking which was a great touch.

I can’t fully describe and appreciate how great our unplanned night away was at the Lutton but I’d definitely recommend it to others and visit again.

Thanks again to...
