We found the Lugger Inn through Booking.com and chose it due to its location. It was pretty central to many places we wanted to visit and a 10 minute drive from Weymouth Beach and city centre. The location was easy to find with SatNav and clear road directions driving in. There was plenty of parking around the Inn and a car park located out back. We did fine the entrance to be slightly confusing and felt as though we were walking somewhere we shouldn't be - the side entrance could be highlighted a lot clearer for people like myself, with very poor sense of direction! The staff were very friendly, everything was explained clearly regarding the stay and we were given an A4 sheet with the WiFi code and other necessary information. The WiFi was strong enough to stream videos. We booked a triple room for 2 adults and one child. There was a single bed and a double bed. There were plenty of plug sockets in convenient locations and switches for the main lights next to the double bed. There was a TV with Freeview and the reception was clear and consistent. There was ample cupboard and draw space. The bathroom was compact but had a large built-in shower cubicle, a toilet and a sink. The room was well presented, the bedding was comfy and all the surfaces were clean. There was a kettle, mugs and coffee/tea/sugar/milk sachets. We were able to make porridge pots for breakfast which saved us money. There is a convenience store within walking distance and a pub restaurant. We ate at the restaurant the first night of our stay and the food was lovely, the portions were generous and the waiting staff were very nice. There was a wide variety of food which was served up until 8pm. The tables were a bit sticky, so if you have a child with sensory issues be sure to bring a placement. The stickiness was due to sanitisation which was more of a reassurance than an inconvenience. The lighting was very dim which added to the ambience but did make it a bit difficult to read menus. My critiques of the dining experience are very trivial and overall we'd happily eat here again. There was a kids menu, which I always feel is a huge plus! We were warned about noise prior to booking as it is a busy venue, but I honestly didn't find the place to be noisy, the sound is enclosed to the downstairs areas and once you're in your room the sounds are muffled and mostly non-existent. We were staying on the first floor and we stayed on a bank holiday weekend which was very busy, but the noise was not noticeable.
Overall I'd say the Lugger Inn ticks all the boxes! Family friendly, good for a weekend getaway, good for business trips due to proximity of the city. It is a great central location to travel to the majority of Weymouth Attractions with great ease and the rooms are comfy and homely with all the necessities.
I loved: the Location, the Food, the WiFi and the staff. I disliked: No...
Read moreWhat a great place The Lugger Inn is, run by Liam and his Mum, they took over during Covid and have built up a fine reputation and I can honestly say that it really is the heart and soul of Chickerell which is just outside of Weymouth off the road to Abbotsbury. The ambiance is great, the food is great, the selection of drinks is great, the staff are great. There are different areas inside the Inn so you can sit quietly with friends and family and enjoy a meal from their menu which isn’t extensive but is varied and reasonably priced, the food is always very good with a short time wait. There is a function Room where recently I attended a Wake, there is plenty of room for up to 80 people with its own bar area, the catering was also good with a varied selection of buffet foods which were definitely not the standard items that you get in most places. The staff are always pleasant and never rush you. I most definitely recommend The Lugger Inn. Being local I haven’t stayed in any of the rooms but I’m told by a guest that the rooms are pleasant and adequate at a good price. The only drawback is that from the centre of Chickerell it is up a steep hill but can be accessed easily from the other end of...
Read moreSpotted a small sign on the road to Sea Barn Farm campsite, so decided to take a look after pitching the tent. It's well hidden in Chickerell village, but signposted on the sides of houses. We arrived and it looked closed with no lights on outside and no sign of people. Parked up and went in the front door, to find people inside. The bar is right back from the door and on a raised seating area, invisible as you arrive. Friendly and helpful staff, lots of locals and a good atmosphere, it feels like a fun place to live near.
They were open, serving food and allowed dogs, which is becoming a theme of my reviews. There is plenty of space inside, a good size public bar and lots of tables. Good selection of beers on tap and the menu had all the important pub classics. Burger and chips, ham egg + chips, plus the kids had their smaller basket meals rather then something of the children's menu. All the food was good, really nice burger. Everyone thought the chip were excellent and portion sizes were generous. Our beers were great and we enjoyed our evening in...
