Visited this pub on New Year's Day for afternoon music session. Due to management anticipating overwhelming demand for their pub grub the session saw a last minute postponement until teatime to accommodate the expected droves. The sight of guitar cases being brought into the bar was more than the staff could bear so we were politely banished to a chilly rear room away from the fire and other customers, despite those customers present commenting how keen they were for us to play. We returned to the fire to finish our drinks leaving the instruments in the chiller whereupon more frostiness greeted us as we were asked to move the instruments as 'it was going to get very busy' an uppity staff member informed us. We left around 3.30pm giving up valuable seating that was so in demand there were numerous seats in the bar area and not a soul in the chiller; sadly the rush on their Xmas left overs didn't materialize. The establishment here evidently have no experience of running a pub with customer service surely an alien concept to them. Off we went to the Tap and Spile in Hexham where both staff and customers were overjoyed at the impromptu entertainment. Needless to say we won't be back; not...
Read moreNew Year's Day at the Miners? Let's look at the facts. I first started the NYD music session about 15 years ago and it has since become a great annual tradition. We always start late afternoon to let the lunch-time drinkers, the diners and the family groups celebrating the holiday have some space before we arrive. This year we put the word about that we would begin arriving from 4 for a 4:30 start. As usual, we had a brilliant session into the evening with old and new musical friends. Home-made soups, bread and other treats provided by some of the villagers gave sustenance to musicians and regulars alike. I would suggest that if Tyneside Blonde sets out for an event in future they ring ahead and find out what time it starts instead of taking their temper out on the management when they arrive two hours early. And leftovers? I don't think so. The Miners has a reputation for the excellence of its bar meals, as well as being renowned for its real ales. I'll be back there at the...
Read moreA fantastic pub with excellent beers and food to match. You'll be guaranteed a warm welcome by the family who own and run it, regulars and locals alike. The food is home cooked and some of the best pub food I have ever had. Plus there is also a wide selection of real ales on tap along with good choices of wines and spirits. There's always a good atmosphere with a well stoked open fire and good crack all round.
In reference to the review by Tyneside blonde, you couldn't get further from the truth. Perhaps learning some social skills and interaction would help, rather than posting catty unsubstantiated comments behind an alias because you couldn't get...
