We did enjoy our stay, the food was great in the evening and the rooms are lovely. However, there were a few niggles which probably mean we wont be staying again.

Sleep was disrupted by the noise from the pub and we could hear someone's TV in the morning which wasn't great.

When we arrived, we were asked when we would like breakfast and the lady suggested 8.30. We said that would be great. In the morning we went down at 8.30 to find the door locked so I called the number provided and was told breakfast is from 9am on Saturdays and Sundays. This was not what was agreed the day before with the lady who checked us in. It also conflicts with what it says on the website which says breakfast from 8. Although the chef/owner turned up shortly before 9 and made us breakfast, there was no apology and we felt rushed. When I asked how long breakfast would likely take as we needed to leave by 9.30, I was told it depends how fast I eat?! The reason I asked was because the lady the night before told us the chef usually comes in around 8 to warm up the grill etc?

A simple apology would have sufficed and the fact my husband has left a review and it's still being made out like we were the issue is disappointing. I think some simple communication between your team is needed here, rather than jumping straight to blaming your customers.

EDIT: I see you like to respond to any review that isn't glowing that we are hiding behind a keyboard, and your responses certainly arent taking on board constructive feedback. You will not always get amazing reviews as people do make mistakes, but apologising for them and taking feedback on board is how you will succeed as a business. I am afraid being rude to your customers, not accepting responsibility and trying to point score will get...

Arrived a little before 7.30pm and had a drink, had to wait for a table but couldn't see anyone else eating. Waited well over an hour for our starters which was below average quality tbh. When the main did come out at 9.30 we were pretty much starving at this point. The food was very poor, and very surprised it took 2hrs to cook. Half the menu was missing and the famous steak pie not on, was only told after we had our orders taken, would of just left if we'd know and went elsewhere but time wasn't on our side. Overall a very poor experience and one which I would not recommend, avoid is my advice !

Edit!! Hi Team, I see your reply and I didn't approach you as the family were very disappointed in the food and they didn't want me to cause a confrontation. The pub was not busy at all, there was a few locals watching the football but I saw absolutely no one eating any food. I appreciate your response hiding behind a keyboard as this seems you rhetoric response, but please be truthful as I have been in my comments, my opinions remains the same, avoid, especially with your negative response.

Edit 2:

Well done for trawling through my google account and you making it into my 3rd poor food review in 15 years, that is quite sad and embarrassing for yourselves 😆

Why not concentrate on trying to master your "Professionally cooked food" instead of showing yourselves up on here.

Let's not get the spin you have made up with the facts eh 😏

4 out of 5 of us had very poor substandard food, that's why you got 2 stars, I wanted to leave 1 star but I was trying to be fair, I'll knock that off for your arrogance and hiding b3hind a keyboard.

Still poor food, arrogant management and one to avoid folks.

Have...

We were extremely disappointed and we will never stay here again. We had an awful experience here. Paid extra on an already expensive room for breakfast, then the next day 8:30AM, expecting a nice breakfast we were informed by the cleaner that there is no chef, and therefore no breakfast. No contact about this beforehand. Furthermore, trying to get a refund even for the breakfast that we paid extra for and never got is proving extremely difficult. We feel completely scammed. The room itself was OK, it feels like the decor is trying hard to feel "premium" on a budget but the room lacks basic items like a bar of soap. It was definitely not worth the price for the room even without breakfast in our opinion.

Edit: Further to the response from the property, no, in fact, a reply to this review is the only direct contact I have had with anybody except the barman who provided the key, and the cleaner who advised that there would be no breakfast that I had already paid for. I think you are liars and scammers, and I wouldn't be surprised if you have paid for fake reviews via nefarious means to try and dilute all of the bad ones you must be getting, based on the lack of service I experienced. If you were honest, you would have refunded me already, since you know you didn't have a chef, but took my money anyway. It is easy to sit behind a keyboard isn't it? Much like you; no interaction with guests. This will not be the last you hear about it until I get...

Another little hidden gem that ticks all the boxes. Probably one of the nicest, friendliest places I've stayed in. The first thing you notice before you even walk into the room is the lovely smell in the hallway. And once you open the door you will be very impressed. The decor, the modern furniture and the lovely new clean modern bathroom. Let's not forget the top quality comfy bed. The only thing missing to me was no coffee machine. I don't mean to sound negative but if it had one I'd personally rate it the nicest place I've stayed in. I didn't get a chance to sample the breakfast as I had to hit the road early but the owner did make me a lovely bacon and egg sandwich for the road and the evening meal was excellent. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to my next visit.

Overnight stop in this beautiful family run country inn. Felt at home as soon we walked through the door. Room was fabulous bed comfy fluffy white towels could go on and on … u’ll just have to book and find out how wonderful the place is Had delicious evening meal, service 100% breakfast was also great Thomas one of the owners was just lovely great chat about the place and how he came to own it along with his sister who we met the evening before and was just as lovely. If we’re ever in the area again will make a point of staying again 😍

We’ve just spent a week in Bolton and ended up in the New Crown Inn more times than we can count. Didn’t stay there, but it soon felt like our local while we were away. Friendly folk, both behind the bar and sat at it, and a decent choice of beers to work through. The food’s spot-on – I had a Cumberland sausage pizza that was so good I had to take a photo. Dog-friendly too, which is a big plus for us, and ours made himself right at home. Cracking pub, good atmosphere, and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re up.
