Review update It's been four years since my last review. Since then, the pub has come under new management. It seems time for an update! TLDR: it's still a fine pub. It's possible that portion sizes may have grown, since my last visit, but the quality remains high. The wait staff get two thumbs-up đđźđđź for professionalism. I asked about local brews -- found myself preferring the Otter. It came in a custom pint glass, which was cute. With any luck, we'll eat there again this week and I'll remember to take fresh photos. Original post: I have experienced a pub or two in my day. This one is authentic, family friendly, and genuinely nice. The hosts are charming and good-natured. The building is properly aged (tres old!), while the beer and cider are properly fresh. The food. Ah, the food. Proper pub grub, but also tasty modern stuff.
What more could I ask of a place? Outdoor seating? A small playground for the kids? Choice whisky selections? It's got all that.
Thank you...

Drinks orders taken by a waitress food orders taken by a man. Food arrived 45 minutes later and was lovely. Fish and chips and Gammon Steak and eggs.
At 1430 I went looking for our waitress and asked her to clear the plates and bring dessert menus. That's an hour after food was delivered. 30 minutes later she still hadn't been back for our dessert order so we paid and left.
It's unfortunate. The food was really good. Please, please keep an eye on tables. I know you were very busy but the waitress was clearing and wiping tables when people had left rather than attending to those still on the premises.
We will come back but please can we be looked after and not ignored. We wanted to enjoy a 2 course meal and drinks. Didn't get a second drink. We spent half what we...
Read moreWhat can I say my first visit & my last visit. My daughters meal looked as if it was dragged out of the freezer & over cooked in the microwave. I had a burger that was very dry & for ÂŁ16 a burger I donât expect to have to pay extra for a slice of cheese. Then I took my children to the play area outside & it felt as if they was worried I wasnât paying for my food. The pub itâs self wasnât the cleanest or most exotic place to eat. Iâm sorry to say but itâs a complete rip off for your food & in all honesty iv eaten better food & had a better experience in a greasy spoon cafe for half the ÂŁ16 I paid for your burger without cheese. This place needs a visit from homes under the hammer & a complete makeover along with the people owners running the show. If youâre looking for good food at a reasonable price in a clean environment donât bother with this place thereâs a fish & chips shop up the rd or a kebab...
