Pros...My food was ok but the wife and our friend said there's was a bit bland. The presentation was really nice, just a wee bit bland, which isn't the end of the world. The prices were reasonable and are well worth it. The drinks were good and a bottle of water was placed on the table without us having to ask, definitely a nice touch.
Cons....My friend had some beer slopped over him and nothing was said. Our friends wife wanted the bream and asked if the head could be removed, the 'waitress' appeared abrupt and said no. My wife and her friend thought she was joking but again, she said no. The ladies in our party asked if she could ask the chef but she didn't appear to take that on board at first, though eventually said she'd ask him, but it's up to him if he will(remove the head)? It was a very odd and uncomfortable minute or so. The chef was good enough to do it for us, which was appreciated.
Maybe the waitress was having an off day but we weren't rude and we were trying to make her feel comfortable with us because she certainly wasn't making us feel comfortable.
The table, with a bench on one side wasn't in the best position, which was by the door and right up against the bar, which had the dishwasher under it so that anything that was washed was put right next to our friend.
When asked if it was all ok, it was, except for what could only be described as an unhappy waitress/bar staff member? We spent a reasonable amount and still left a tip as there is a team of staff working who deserve something.
It's only a first world problem but unfortunately, not somewhere we'll be heading back to soon, which is a shame as the pub is a decent place.
I'd imagine that the feedback may well be somewhat defensive but this is an honest review and not one I'm used to leaving.
I would say that the star rating would be 3.5 but it won't allow me to put it as that.
Hopefully others who try the pub will get a...

We recently had the immense pleasure of celebrating our wedding at The Crown at Kelston, and we can genuinely say it was the most perfect day imaginable, largely thanks to the incredible team there.
From our very first contact, we dealt with Neve, who was absolutely brilliant. Neve made the planning process seamless and stress-free. In the lead-up to the wedding, everything ran so smoothly that we genuinely didn't have to think about a single thing on the day itself โ a true gift for any couple!
Neve even coordinated directly with our florist, two musicians, the stretch tent company, and our cake supplier on the morning of the wedding, ensuring all suppliers were perfectly in sync without us lifting a finger. Whatever our request, big or small, nothing was ever an issue for Neve and the team. They were incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond.
On the day of the wedding, the staff worked effortlessly from start to finish. Their attentiveness, efficiency, and friendly demeanour were remarkable, ensuring all our guests were well looked after and the celebration flowed beautifully. And we must mention, the food was absolutely amazing โ a real highlight that all our guests raved about! The atmosphere was exactly what we dreamed of, and every detail was handled with precision and care.
We cannot recommend The Crown highly enough for any event, especially a wedding. If you're looking for a venue where you can relax and truly enjoy your special day, knowing everything is in expert hands, look no further! A huge thank you to Neve/Theo and all the staff for making our wedding day so incredibly memorable...
ย ย ย Read moreWe were delighted to find the Old Crown open and welcoming yesterday. We were found a table in their very charming garden immediately, and orders were taken for drinks and our meal within the first five minutes. Unfortunately, it went downhill form there. We waited 25 minutes for our first drinks. Our starter came five minutes after that. Half an hour after finishing the starter our main meal arrived. However, mine was not what I had ordered (in fact was not even on the menu). After getting the attention of one of the staff, she went off to speak with the chef. ten minutes later, came back with the coleslaw and sweet potato chips, which should have come with my meal originally. They were plonked down, and I was told that the chef had to make them especially for me (Sorry, but they were part of the meal that was ordered!). After all that I was concerned that, if things were confused in the kitchen, that the meal may not be totally gluten free (I am coeliac, and explained this when ordering). I then waited for the manager to assure me that it was safe to eat. The main part of the meal at that point was cold. I ate what I could, simply because I was hungry. However, at the best food was mediocre. It was our first drink and meal out after 7 months, and was so disappointing.
A lovely pub, but for us anyway, the good experience...
