Came here last night with our large friends group (11 plus a toddler) and had the best pub food we've had in a long time. We'd booked a while back, got contacted by Helen, the landlady, to pre ordered our food earlier this week. Good choice of meals, we had steak pies (amazing), scampi, chicken jalfrezi, lamb shanks and the salmon dish, plus a variety of desserts including raspberry and white chocolate roulade, apple and berry crumble, cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding, all served with either ice cream, cream or custard. Everyone were super happy with their meals, delicious all-round. The beers are brewed locally and are also very very good! Hope to come back to those fabulous pib sometime...

A proper gem of a pub. They serve amazing local beers, all brewed right in the village - and both the pub and the brewery are run as co-operatives, which gives the place a real sense of community and care. Staff are always warm and welcoming, and there’s a great atmosphere - it feels like a true local without ever being unwelcoming to newcomers.

Perfect spot when the sun’s out, with outdoor tables that catch the light in the evening. Inside, there’s a pool table and plenty of space to settle in. Food-wise, the burger is spot on and the onion rings might be the best I’ve had anywhere.

Highly recommend if you want something genuine, friendly, and rooted in...

We booked the old crown for food and drinks during a stop doing the cumbria way walk. This is how a pub should be. The choice of beers available is fantastic. The food is outstanding, the lamb shank especially. The booking was originally for 6 people but was changed to 7 at very short notice with no problem at all. The pub was very busy but we wasn't left waiting for anything. We even got a lift back to our camping barn at last orders which would of been a trek back for us. Big shout out to all the staff especially the landlady, barstaff and chef for a fantastic evening. Keep up the good work at the old crown. 👍👍👌👌 we will be back. Kev and the group,...

Outstanding pub with it's own brewery! I've visited this pub for a long long time now and it's not changed it's character. Friendly staff, superb (camra real ale guide) beer and good quality simple food make this place well worth visiting, add to that the beautiful countryside views and lovely walks and you have a day well spent. Finally I forgot to mention that the pub is dog friendly and if you want to the real ale at home then they will sell you a four pint container of your favourite tipple.

Had an excellent evening here after a day hiking on the Cumbria Way. Its a hidden gem and was a highlight of our trip. The food was great (all of our group were impressed, whether they had lamb, burgers or the cannelloni - and the sticky toffee pudding with thunder and lightning ice cream was incredible), the beer was excellent and the staff went out of their way to be helpful (including digging out some aftersun for one of our group). I wish we had more pubs like this down south!

Stayed in this village whilst completing the Cumbria way, we visited this pub for our tea and it was delightful. The staff couldn't be anymore accommodating (as we didn't book a table, as we didn't know you had to). We was welcomed in and wasn't rushed off our table at all. The atmosphere was great and the food & drinks bill was cheap!!!! 100% worth a visit if your in the area. Cute little pub with friendly staff & people. Thank you for the delicious food & drinks! X
