Cycled past here countless times and finally decided to visit this old historic pub in what is a lovely village. Think they've had a bit of work done on the interior as it has a nice modern feel, half bar and half restaurant. The views are fab and on a sunny afternoon the patio space would be equally good. They've also converted one of the outhouses to hold a wood fired pizza oven and what we saw coming out looked good. We all had Sunday roast and the kid's portion was decent and half the normal price. We've had a few Sunday lunches out this year and this is as up there with the best. Well cooked tender beef, good roasties and equally well cooked veg; all plates went back empty. Small dessert selection was just as good and we left very happy. We did have a slight wait for our mains but it was acceptable for us and also understandable as we came at 1.30pm which is towards the end of the lunch period (12 to 2pm). We could see the staff were all working hard and they did offer apologies at the end for the wait and slight confusion over our mains but none of that had impacted our experience in any way. The two ladies who mainly took care of us were great and really pleasant even when having a tough time. Delicious Sunday Lunch and good drinks meant we'd be back for sure and would happily recommend.

After driving past The Old Red Lion on a weekly basis and not really giving it a second look, the need for some lunch with friends whilst nearby prompted us to look at the online reviews out of curiosity, and we were pleasantly surprised by the consistently high scores. Booking online was simple and easy. Getting parked was fine on a weekday lunchtime, but I imagine at weekends things could be an awful lot trickier - and would leave me rather anxious with the lack of car park. The food is excellent for the price point. The pork schnitzel was flavourful, tender and hot. It was served with a fresh and well dressed chopped salad and a mountain of French fries. The Beef and Horseradish sandwich certainly wasn't lacking in the filling department and came served with a generous stack of quality crisps on the side. The kids Pasta was plenty for a 13 year old appetite, and was again clearly freshly prepared and seasoned well. The other item from the kids menu was the burger which was again of a decent size and topped well. The pub itself is spotlessly clean, well laid out, and outside commands a lovely view from the beer garden. All in all very pleasantly surprised - and we are only saddened by having not visited sooner.

I attended a fantastic wedding party at the Old Red Lion. Does not do them often but it is a brilliant outside location for one. The long garden seems to reach out to the stunning sunset and the view is just the best. The staff were excellent and did all they could for the evening. The decking area provided a great dance floor and the patio heaters kept the drinkers warm when the sun went down. The wood oven pizzas produced in the garden were superb and among the best I have had. The bar sticks excellent ales and wines and all tastes are catered for. A tremendous night to celebrate a beautiful wedding. The Old Red Lion did us proud.

I am not one to leave a bad review but I am extremely disappointed by my experience here this evening. I came for pizza and wine with my sister. We had a table booked. First evening out together since lockdown. When we arrived we were seated at our table, we waited forever for someone to take our drinks order and had to prompt a member of staff to take our order. I would like to add the pub was not busy at all otherwise I would not even write this complaint having worked in the hospitality industry myself and also my sister currently doing so. Once our drinks arrived we waited ages to order food I'm talking 30mins plus. In this time other people had been sat, orders taken and food arrived by the time we managed to get someones attention to take our order. People who were sat after us and had their food were paying and leaving before our starter even arrived. The food was nice we had pizzas and they are good I cannot fault them. Once finished we waited a further 45minutes for the bill. The bill after 45 mins had not arrived and no-one had come to check on us but was checking on the other guests around us. We went in and spoke to the bar staff and got a "oh really" reaction. We has left over food were not offered a box to take away as the other guests were and to be honest didn't want to ask off our own backs as we had been chasing the service all evening. We do not feel much effort was made to right the wrong and spent just shy of £55 here for two people. It is such a shame I usually love coming here. If your happy to have high wait times and extremely poor poor service but have a nice garden and a decent pizza then this...

We visited The Old Red Lion for my mother-in-law’s birthday with a party of six adults and three children, hoping for a pleasant Sunday meal. While the food itself was tasty, with good portions and a varied menu, the service unfortunately let the experience down.

From the start, drinks took a long time to arrive, then one of our starters was forgotten, only to be rushed out late. The real issue came with our main courses, which arrived after a very long wait, and two of the children’s meals were missing entirely. By the time they arrived, our daughter was in tears, as everyone else had nearly finished eating, over an hour after placing our orders. We had planned to order coffee and desserts, but were abruptly told to leave as another booking was waiting for the table. At no point were we informed of a time limit on our reservation.

When we politely raised concerns about the slow and disorganised service, the response from our waitress was cold and dismissive, insisting that a two-hour table limit is standard practice. No acknowledgment of poor service and no goodwill gesture were offered. The manager was similarly unhelpful, blaming our party for the delay. After many enjoyable visits in the past, this experience has left us deeply disappointed, and unfortunately, we won’t be returning anytime soon—especially when there are now better alternatives...
