We turned up here in the pouring rain as they were just closing up and the angels here made such a kind and generous effort to help us out! They made us the most delicious food baked fresh there (cheese scone and a DELECTABLE sausage roll) when they were meant to be going home, and went absolutely out of their way to do all that they could to make sure we were fed having travelled a long, long way. The salad was even outstanding!!! Sue, Mary and Julie were particularly lovely and helpful. Chris was also great. Really started off our holiday with the most lovely kind and helpful attitudes. I asked them where I could get some waterproof trousers as I am a wally and can’t find mine. Instead of telling me where to buy some one of the angels just said what size are you and proceeded to go to her car to give me some spares she had!! I offered to bring them back and she was having none of it. I’ve never had a better experience at a cafe in 30 years of life on this planet. Thanks, you are superstars, excellent service and excellent advice on where to go in the local area! Will be...

Bumbling staff, useless waiter and sandwiches we had to put together ourselves. This is the second and last time I have been here, drove out after mothers day in Keswick and was again not impressed. Ordered two cheese and chutney sandwiches at over Ā£5 EACH and they didn’t even spread the chutney in the sandwich, it was provided in a tiny bowl a measly serving between two rounds of sandwiches and the cheese was clearly pre sliced from a package. when I asked the waiter (if you could call him that) ā€œI don’t know!ā€ Was the response, side salad was minimal and the dressing so unpleasant I didn’t risk more than one bite. This place must make a fortune of poor unsuspecting tourists at those prices luckily I know the area and we went elsewhere for coffee and cake afterwards. Made a complaint to the front of house only to get a very annoyed and rude response. Please stay away if you value your wallet and any...

Lovely little place and the food was nice enough but I nearly keeled over when I realised I was getting charged £7 for a small slice of cake. Over £14 for a sausage sandwich (which was nice) a can of coke and slice of cake plus £1.20 parking on top. No prices on display for the cakes which I'm not surprised at as if there was I don't think they would sell many. Put a bit of a damper on an otherwise lovely day and walk.

In response to the tea rooms reply, the Cumberland sausage was £4.95, the can of pop was £2.50 and I was charged a total of £14.70. You do the sums. I also heard someone else order 2 slices of cake which came to over £14 so something is wrong with your prices. I had no complaints about the sandwich,...

Nestled between Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite the Old Sawmil has just reopened for the 2025 season. A wonderfully warm winter welcome from staff and stove. Their Italian Bean Soup was particularly piquant and the chef made me a special glutenfree version of their canellini butter platter which really hit the spot. I followed up with their tasty vegan glutenfree flapjack (for those with less restricted diets there is a mouthwatering range of cakes and bakery bread). Perfect preparation for a walk in Dodd wood.

The Old Sawmill Tearoom is ideally situated in the car park of Dodd Wood. They have a great selection of food treats. The soup of the day was leek and potato, which was absolutely delicious. I spoke to the chef and she makes all her own soup. The cakes are also home made by other members of the team. They do a soup and sandwich deal, which is well worth it. The cakes we had were coffee and walnut, also chocolate, both tasted amazing. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

This is a hidden gem of the Lake District. This is a lovely cafe with a car park (make sure you've got change). Free toilets. You have some really nice walks from here and you can eeven walk up Skiddaw from her.. If you just want a short you can walk up dod.. or just walk and want to see the osprey view point. there's some great views to be had. RSPB often set up telescopes during the osprey season.
