Poor poor service - poor covid safety. Had a meal here on 10/10/2020, was really busy and we were put in the back room/restaurant which we were happy about. We ordered our mains and asked if there was any puddings and the waitress said yes, our mains came out which were very good. Our plates got collected and we was asked how everything was, there was no mention of would you like any puddings or any more drinks, so we waited about 10 mins before we rang the buzzer system which the pub has implemented to notify the servers of when we wanted drinks, we ended up ringing the buzzer 3 times before someone came over to us, the young girl came to us about 45 mins after our mains were collected and we asked for the pudding menu (which was a slate with the puddings on, which isn’t very hygienic or covid safe) and ordered some drinks, we waited for another 10 mins for the girl to come back with our drinks and to order our puddings so decided to go the bar and ask where the drinks are and to order puddings, at this point there was a group of 4/5 lads stood at the bar drinking, no face masks or screen up at the bar which is currently illegal under the new covid rules!!! The lady at the bar said she would do the drinks now, but we decided we didn’t want them anymore and left. It felt as thought because we were in the back room we were forgotten about, really poor service and probably understaffed. I understand it’s hard times but I work in a pub and I know how it can be done correctly. I’ve given it a 2 star because the food was good, but I...

The fantastic Old Star. It's so difficult to decide where to eat these days. Somewhere memorable, yet hopefully not feeling financially violated after the event. So many average offerings that all too often, promise much, yet so often disappoint. So the Old Star: Never been before but what a local pub. Great REAL ales, roaring fires and people, yes a busy local bar and all smiling and happy, be them eating or drinking or both. East Yorkshire offers lots of pubs and some fine dining not far away, but at significant and considerable expense. Yes they are 'dining experiences' but food is food. This is Shining STAR pub grub at the top of the Premier League at decent 2023 prices. I have been around the block. I know much about a lot, but Asadly I think I know more about steak pies than most. Needless to say the steak pie at the Old Star was as good as any I have ever eaten. My wife's steak was excellent and I watched others eating belly pork and burgers and all smiling, content and clearly very happy with this exceptional pub food. Set amid an old tasteful pub with fires and people selling wonderful ales. What else can I say. So glad we went. We will be back. Oh yes and lovely service and staff, with he landlady behind the bar who told me that they use their own meat from their farm. It can't get...

So having eaten here a few times prior to lockdown which was delicious! We had a table booked for nearly two weeks at The Old Star Kilham, turn up on time ( if not a minute or two before) and what a total disregard for social distancing, no hand sanitiser, staff not wearing ppe, no social distancing at bar even though it clearly says “ no standing at the bar” Posters reminding you keep 2 metres apart which may have been frankly used as toilet paper as nobody took any notice, no apparent protocols just headless chickens of bar staff given it was so busy. Told 2 people that we were here for our table, 1st one decided not to do anything besides look bemused, second was bar man who asked if we wanted drinks when I said we’d a table booked still said what would you like to drink as we don’t know when your table will be ready 😳 as no where to sit or stand safely within the 2 metre guidance as there was 4 of us (Kitchen well less said the better here only wished I took a photo of the chaos) we said we’d leave it- we walked out the same way we came in pushing through other groups of people waiting. We then spent the next hour ( and more) trying to find somewhere to eat. Very disappointed that a local establishment appeared to have failed in keeping...

What a lovely pub 🍻 We stopped here whilst passing through on our way back from Flamborough, it's a traditional, rustic country pub, with a good selection of ale at the bar. The staff were accommodating and friendly. It's recommended to book, but we managed to get a table without booking. The food was really good, and the whole family enjoyed it. The waiting time was a bit slow, but again worth it for the quality coming out of the kitchen. Toilets were clean and tidy and access is good for all abilities. The garden area was quaint and in full sun around 3pm. Not enough benches with umbrellas, so we decided to sit inside. There were a lot of flies in the bar, due to the warm weather, and due to the sealed windows meant they congregated around us and our food. We didn't let it put us off and enjoyed the meal all the same! I'm sure we were just unlucky on our visit. Hence why I've ignored this and given the place an epic 5 star. We'll definitely visit again! With less flies around, we'd have had pudding! The crumble sounded great 💯 - until next time 😉

We stayed in the Highfield nearby , but fancied some real food , not the posh stuff in the hotel. We found The Old Star and it was also recommended by the lady in the hotel. It was really easy to find, and o street parking outside was easy too. We were greeted and seated straight away, though we did reserve a spot. The staff were all brilliant and very attentive. We got our drinks in no time and we picked our food from the menu. There was a few Vegetarian and vegan choices from the menu, which being Dairy intolerant sometimes helps. The food was fantastic, all well cooked , hot and enough to fill us both. The only downside is it is a pub, and it was quite noisy, there was also someone wanting to fight people in another room. All in all, we had a good night with great food. The price was very reasonable too.

What a lovely pub, the team are so friendly and helpful. Everyone one of them made us feel welcome during our visits while we were on holiday in the village of Kilham. The service was good and the food on both occasions absolutely perfect. It is also a dog friendly pub and Molly our cocker spaniel felt very welcome too. We were very lucky that the sun shone all week and the out door area of the pub was so welcoming. There are lovely snuggly blankets to wrap up in when it gets a bit chilly. Thank you to all the team for making us feel so welcome. We hope the sun keeps shining for you. 🐕😎🥂
