This is based on a two night stay in the rooms, not the pub part. So, as a family of 5 visiting family down here we booked to stay here. All I have to say is it was the worst 2 night's sleep I have ever had, and I can usually sleep through anything. Firstly, the room was booked for 5 people; 3 adults and 2 children. Not sure why they it was felt that 1 double and 2 single beds were sufficient to cater for us all. It was not, not by a long shot. Second, the toilet that just keeps going. You need to flush the loo just right, otherwise it will continue to fill until the end of time and drop water into the bowl. Try telling an 8&6 year old how to do this correctly. Thirdly, the undercounted fridge was the noisiest I have ever encountered. At one point it was like a jackhammer was going off in the room and had to be shook to get it to quieten down, but then it changed to a minute of silence and a minute of loud noise until we have in and turned it off. Honestly it was terrible. It also froze our jelly and milk for my children. Fourth, the window I was near was cold and drafty and I found myself having to use my asthma inhaler much more than normal Fifth, no WiFi. In the digital age we are in, there was no in situ WiFi. It was in the pub and "should reach the room". It did not. We were not impressed. There should be WiFi in each room or at least over this side of the carpark. Sixth, the mattresses were far too soft, it was like sinking into the middle with no support. I like a nice soft mattress but these were either the softest ever or they were over used and need replacing. For the price we paid (in excess of £250) for the two nights, I am less than impressed. It is bog standard basic and it just isn't worth the money at all. No wonder smaller businesses struggle. Premier Inn would have been cheaper, further away yes, but cheaper and much better, that's a given. If this was 4-in-a-bed, I wouldn't even pay 20% of the price. Terrible. Avoid and stay...
Read moreI can not say a bad word about this place... Its always the first place I think of when I want to go out to eat, without worrying about whether I'm going to enjoy it, or be full by the end of the meal.
The pub itself is set off the main road, has a decent size carpark, and looks great from the outside. It has a huge beer garden out back and plenty of space for kids to run around in. There is laid back picnic benches, or a more formal decking in which you can sit.
Going inside it has a really country pub feel to it. There is plenty to keep your eyes occupied, and it has so many little nik naks and oddities. I love it! The eating areas inside are a little small, but I find it very cozy. There is plenty of space between the tables. There is also a train carriage that sits at the back of the building for something a little more intimate and formal, like a first date or anniversary, in fact my partner took me here for my birthday last year.
The menu is great, there is a mixture of different meats, and cuisine styles, as well as a specials board, which I believe varies depending on the available local produce.
Myself and my partner have worked our way through the entire menu, and will happily go through it again. The meat is well cooked to suit your tastes. I have to have meat either medium (lamb) or well done (beef) but my partner likes it rare, and they get it spot on every time. The veg is always fresh, and they do the best mashed potoato I have ever had (sorry mum).
The meals are huge! I know when I leave I'm going home stuffed. I hate going out to eat, and feeling like I could eat again not long after.
I usually can't fit in any deserts (literally) so I'm not quite sure what they offer, but I fully intend to investigate this summer.
The staff so welcoming, and friendly. The vibe they give off make you feel like a regular, even if you have never been before.
All in all a great place to have meal, either for just two or the...
Read moreWe were two families on a day trip and needed some food so we chose this pub based on the reviews and that it had a train carriage as a restaurant which we thought would be great for the kids.
The pub is quirky but smelled like smoke and was quite uncomfortable obviously not clean. We had a sour reception and things only got worse as we stayed. We have 7 kids between us and they were all excited as they always are when we get together, most people find it endearing…. not here.
The staff and most notable what seemed to be the land lady was horrible to us and the children, telling them off at one point because they were playing with the dozens of cushions left in the snook , asking for all the cushions as they would get stained and “she’d have to wash them”. To be honest I don’t think they’ve washed anything in there for a while. This lady was progressively ruder and ruder to us until we just downed tools and we all left with haste.
They made us feel so bad and guilty for just having happy children. I can say that this was the worst dining experience I have ever come across, if they don’t welcome or want kids then they should just say so upon booking when we rang them. Also, the food was horrible, worst roast in a long time. Not to mention that as we were getting ready to leave, the lady asked as “how we were going to split the bill”, before we asked for it.
In conclusion, you can go for a dirty pint there and nothing...
