My wife had a course to attend in Corby, she found The Olde Three Cocks on Trivago. Booked it.|We arrived and drove into a beautiful village, the pub being one of two in the village and certainly the most inviting. We parked and entered to restaurant via the rear door from the car park. |We were greeted by the Landlord and welcomed very warmly. We had the room with its own door from the car park, the room was very well presented, clean, warm and the bedding and mattress were brand new. We had a en-suite shower and toilet, the shower was fantastic and the variable power worked wonders on my shoulders and neck after our 2 1/2 hour drive from Salisbury. |After a couple of hours relaxing we entered the restaurant for dinner, a good menu with a variety of good food. I opted for the Lamb shank and my wife for the chicken and mushroom with mashed potatoes and veg. Our meals arrived, wow, melt in the mouth meals ample portions, all home cooked. |After dinner we retired to our room and rested again, having a very good nights sleep with no noise from the pub or car park. |We’d advised the waitress, when asked, that we’d like breakfast at 0730. We rose, drank a coffee then showered, dressed and went into the pub again for breakfast. |A full English for me, sausage, bacon, poached eggs, beans, toast and fresh tomato. Beautifully cooked and presented. My wife asked for poached egg on toast and again, perfectly cooked to my wife’s specification. |I took my wife to her course, wandered around Corby for an hour or 2 then decided to return to our room to relax. It had been cleaned thoroughly and the used towels replaced. |I watched the TV for a while, did some spreadsheet building on my laptop, then had a walk around the village with my camera. Returning to the pub at lunchtime. I opted for the Landlords made Chilli-Con-Carne. I’ll not say anything more than if it’s on the menu if you eat or stay there order it, you will not be disappointed. After lunch I again returned to our room and continued working until my wife called to be collected. |The was a pub quiz advertised with the Landlord donating £5 for every person who pays a pound to enter the quiz. My wife had work to catch up on so I went to the quiz. The locals were very welcoming, indulging in conversation as though we’d known each other for many years. A free buffet was supplied by the landlord, I’d been told about this earlier so just had whitebait and a lemon meringue pie. |Hotdogs, samosas and pizza was served during the break. A great evening with great atmosphere. I returned to our room and again awoke feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep. |Another full English for me and the same for my wife. Again perfectly cooked and presented, along with a bunch of roses and a card for my wife from the landlord who’d spoken to me the previous evening regarding her course and ensuing exam later that day. |If you’re going to Kettering or Corby for anything, then I very highly recommend The Olde Three Cocks as somewhere to...

Read moreAs we had an appointment near Corby the following day, my husband booked a last minute choice of this pub, which he told me was 'on the high street, Kettering'. He was wrong! We realised this as we followed the satnav into the very pretty village of Brigstock and parked in the car park behind the pub. It was mid afternoon and the pub was busy with, we presumed, locals but a member of staff happily showed us to our room, a small and quirky double bedroom with en-suite shower room...in the car park. It turned out to be a good choice, warm, clean and nicely decorated with thoughtful choices like the biscuits on the tea tray! As the facilities in the village consist of the Co-op supermarket and one other pub The Green Dragon (which advertised itself as open, but wasn't for some reason), we drove into Corby for a wander around the shops and coffee. When we thought we were staying in Kettering, we planned to find an Indian restaurant, as we like spicy food. Instead, not wanting to drive back to Corby again (Kettering was even further), we dined in the pub. My husband was disappointed with his chilli con carne - not enough chilli for him, but my battered fish was fantastic, light crispy batter and tasty white fish - it was delicious. After a comfortable night, we went to breakfast at 8.00, having been asked the night before for our preferred time. We had to tell Paul that the shower pump was making a terrible noise - continuing long after it was switched off. The full English breakfasts arrived after a short wait - freshly cooked and piping hot. In fact, I can't ever remember having a breakfast, cooked to order, where every single morsel was piping hot - wish more places could do this! After packing the car, I went to check out (we'd paid cash for our meal the night before) and there was a bit of confusion. I thought my husband had pre-paid the b&b on line, but Paul showed the receipt with 'to be paid' written on, so I paid by credit card He suggested double checking my credit card bill, as he would refund immediately if needed. Headed off to our appointment well...
