When we first visited a couple of years ago the Olive Grove was first class. However, in 2020 we have visited and each time it has been a big disappointment. The first time, during the week, we were plagued by wasps when a little boy was stung. The food on that occasion was very nice but our portions compared to others were very small. The second visit was for Sunday lunch where we sat waiting for our food for almost an hour. When the food did arrive it was completely dry where it looked as though it had been left under a heat lamp. My wife brought this to the attention of a waitress who said she would replace the meat (it should have been the whole dish!) but the replacement never arrived. The manager accepted that the standard of the food was "unacceptable" and did not charge for the main course but by then our whole experience was totally ruined. Prior to the Sunday lunch we had also booked for another midweek visit before we returned home. Despite our bad Sinday experience we still arrived for the meal in midweek thereafter. We could kick ourselves because it was another bad experience. We both ordered the same meal but one was much larger than the other. Again, despite ordering a drink it never arrived. Sadly we will not be returning again. As pleasant as some of the staff are, some simply do not listen to what the customers are requesting as they are in too much of a rush. This is intended to be constructive feedback and l hope they take the time to read it in the manner that it...
Read moreHad a terrible experience here when we visited with my sister in law and her partner and son who were here on holiday. We had been recommended to visit for years and were taken in by the good reviews and apparent options for vegan and gluten free. When we arrived we were told abruptly by one of the staff there was a private function so we would be seated at the front, which was fine with us. We were not offered any menus, presumably because staff did not wish us to stay. We ordered drinks and cakes, staff were NOT helpful in clarifying what was suitable for our dietary requirements. Everything felt like an inconvenience. Vegan teacake was brought to us with dairy spread on top. We were brought an extra drink we did not order and the member of staff acted as if this were our fault, rudely stating "I'll have to take this off now" to us. The food prep area is adjacent to dining area and we could hear staff snapping at each other for mistakes. It was a very uncomfortable atmosphere. I cannot fathom why we were so detested at first glance - I wonder if it was because we do not speak with cornish accents (although my husband and I have lived and worked here for well over a decade) or if staff are prejudiced against "alternative" people (we all had tattoos, piercings, dyed hair etc). These are the only things I can think of that would explain why we were treated so poorly despite being friendly, polite and gracious. This attitude has no place in the modern day. Very...
Read moreWe have eaten in here for lunch quite a few times this year. A few of the latter ones i have noticed the standards have slid away in a few areas. Condidering most meals are £12 including sandwiches, good food and service is a must. I have noticed that service has been disappointing, slow and the food quality has gone south. I had ham , egg and chips. The ham was cheap processed stuff, wet and shiny. The egg was over cooked and "sliceable", and the chips are frozen skinny chips out of a bag that had been over fried and most you couldnt put a fork in them. Certainly not worth £12. My wifes tempura king prawns and salad was the quality expected, so it isnt across the board. Maybe the menu ingredients need to be reviewed on...
