A Wonderful Breakfast Hidden Gem Wonderful little breakfast spot hidden away just outside Stanley, County Durham. Easy to park outside and cozy seating internally with only a few tables which added to the quaint atmosphere, not too busy on a Monday morning but still a good number of customer traffic. Plenty to select from the menu, ranging from traditional sourdough toast, bacon sandwiches, croissants to breakfast cake and a selection of breakfast teas and coffees. Also on the menu that can be booked in advance is a mid morning ‘afternoon tea style’ breakfast smorgasbord. We chose, Americano coffees with bacon and cream cheese ciabatta sandwich as well as a bacon and mushroom ciabatta sandwich and a side of sourdough toast. The bacon was of good quality thick and crispy and cooked really well. We had been very impressed with the high quality of service and food with friendly staff on hand to serve and answer questions. Service was quick and attentive with toilets available, externally to the back of the property. We are looking forward to returning to sample the extensive pizza menu and other tasty treats on offer. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Chris and Caroline

What a delicious yummy dinner; thank you Holly and staff! From our appetizers (3 types of bruschetta, my brother's parsnip soup), to our mains (my supremely divine ravioli, the tortellini and my brother's pizza) to our delicious desserts (Basque cheesecake, meringue fruit and cream) every morsel was awesome, as you can tell by the empty plates! The added touches worthy of any five-star international restaurant, were very much appreciated. We had prosecco to start, and the shot of Bailey's was a wonderful finish to our whole evening, a Christmas gift from my nephew Niall, nieces Erin and Roisin. We will definitely return! Highly recommended.

I hadn’t been to The Olive Stone until recently moving locally. We’ve tried their paninis which are delicious and a good amount of filling, not meagre like chain cafes. I recommend the bacon and Brie! We also tried their pizzas as a takeaway on Friday evening and they were absolutely delicious. The pizza base itself is lovely and light and the fillings were high quality and generous. It’s becoming our go to Italian cafe.
