Very poor. We visited on Wednesday evening the atmosphere was cold, literally. Anyway, after looking at the prices we expected something special. I ordered the fish and chips, mistake. The fish was cold in the middle, the chips were soggy, they had been cooked and then left, not fresh. The mushy peas were worse than awful. They tasted like garden peas, I think they probably were. This was not a £10 dish. My partner chose the “Rib Eye” and with a price tag of £17 could be forgiven for expecting something rather good. It was anything but. The steak resembled a shoe sole, the chips again were soggy and not fresh and the whole dish was accompanied by 1/2 of a tomato and the soggy head of a mushroom, over cooked. We did bring our disappointment to the attention of the lady behind the bar. She apologised and hoped that we would return to try again!! I do not make a habit of reviewing restaurants in this manner but considered that this particular needed to be highlighted. My business is catering and I do have some experience in food pricing and quality, along with customer expectations. The management need to have a serious look at what they are serving and how much they are charging. Good pub food is achievable by most domestic home cooks, and good pub chefs should be able to do better than the food that we sadly received. Good reputations take a long time to build, but a short time to lose. I would happily pay double for good food but this was nothing but highway robbery. The pub should be renamed the...

Shame really, came here about two years ago and was blown away, Went there today and were underwhelmed 3 of us ordered the half and half pork and beef. One came decent size two Yorkshire puddings ,mine came looked half the size one yorkie. My partners came, larger one yorkie. I asked the waiter if they had made a mistake as we had discussed having a kids portion. But no I was informed it was staked higher ( it wasn't) I asked if I could have and extra yorkie to make it up he said yes I was partially pleased. Veg and gravey came but no yorkie. I dismantled the meal to discover a very small bit of beef ,a decent bit of pork . An what I was convinced was a cooked pice of spam. I was told by a fellow guest it was stuffing. I think it was spam. So genrally unimpressed. But hay ho Then the other 3 ordered the Eaton mess, That came in a child size ice cream glass. Icecream, merange and strawberries. No cuilie, fresh cream pr sprig of mint, Felt like something you would have been served in a happy eater circa 1998, Sadly they went back, I don't know if it's changed hands or it was end of a busy service and they were running out of supplies and inspiration. 2 years ago it was excellent Today...

Read the good reviews and booked as we were staying at praa sands. I ordered the (over priced) steak and was told that they are all boiled before cooking so I could have it rare or medium rare as they were cooked medium at a minimum due to the “water bath” obviously I took their word for this and ordered. It came, very small and I’d say 40% rind and fat. The meat itself was tough as leather and the table opposite me sent theirs back. Not wanting to cause an issue I ate what I could and when the waitress cleared the plates and asked if everything was ok my reply was ‘yes, it was ok, but nothing more than ok’. She then took the plates and a minute later another guy brought the bill, put it on the table and walked away. This is extremely bad service and frankly plain rude. My partner was planning to order dessert and maybe another drink but we’d obviously hurt someone’s ego in the kitchen because we weren’t overwhelmed by their boiled beef so were made to feel uncomfortable and left. Such a shame as we had high hopes. But I suppose in a tourist spot like this they don’t need to rely on repeat custom. Would be 1 star for food and service but I’ll give 2 as they had a good selection of...

We where visiting the butterfly sanctuary on a Sunday in begining of Aug. The busiest time summer and Sunday roasts.. did not expect to get a seat ... We took a gamble and popped in because it was a dog friendly pub . First thing apon walking in a guy with his dog on a dog chair , of course our lady sat on one too .m and I loved this about this place . They also where friendly helpful and accommodated us happily . The guy server had fantastic banter and humour. 2 course or 3 on a Sunday roast . And oh my gosh THEBEEF BRISKET .. pure and utter filth(in a good way) this has sold me .. it was a great sized meat 🍖 and tastes amazing... so much so as soon as summer ends we be travelling over from newquay again .with shadow the dog and boys ..who want to try the beef brisket ... I hope it be same size portion of meat.... you don't mind paying when it tastes good(AMAZING INFACT) and a good/fair portion... x.. . If your in the area it is a great place to eat .. a all rounder winner ... I Have told quite a few of my clients since .

Sunday lunch here was insanely good, by far the best pub food I've had in years. Very good service too, attentive where needed but not over the top. *edit - we've been back since and it was just as good :) I've also seen reviews that say the building is fully wheelchair accessible, this is not strictly true, there is a tight turn and a step down through the front door but if you can't manage this they will open the extra bit on the conservatory door at the back for you no problem, this way in is fully level. The conservatory itself is very spacious but I wouldn't like to try and manoeuvre a larger electric chair or scooter through into the main building. Parking could also be an issue if you need to open your door wide, there are no disabled spaces.

Ive only visited this place on one occasion and I would certainly like to visit again if I'm ever working locally in the future. Service was great and the food was exceptional! I would have loved to have been able to try more dishes but the 3 courses I had were delicious (especially the lamb main). Situated in a good location, plenty of parking and a quirky traditional interior with a relaxed atmosphere. The only thing I could knock it on is that it's missing a decent outdoor eating/drinking area, but I could have just not found it myself, I did see a nice large conservatory seating area. The bottled rattled was nice too. Cheers!
