The Penny Black — Restaurant in England

Came on Sunday for a carvery! Wont be back again! Think they expected it to be busy so cooked loads of food and it wasnt so the food had been under the lamps for hours! Requested new Yorkshire puddings as the were hard, was told this happens when they're left under the lamp for so long and they would bring us fresh, which they did but they again were cold and dry. Mash potatoe burnt stuck to bottom of the pan. Upon picking the meat we were told they had everything but the Turkey as there was only bits left and it wasnt very nice!! Spoke to owner on leaving, "thanks for feedback" was the response we received! No apology! Screeching music blaring giving a headache. Another customer asked for it to be turned off or over, which they did 10 mins later! Rubbish food, rubbish customer service! No wonder the place...

Popped in for some tea with little expectation as it was very quiet then we arrived but was pleasantly surprised. Very warm welcome off the staff who were really friendly. Food on the menu was standard pub fare but when it arrived was top quality. Had a burger which was outstanding, thick juicy patties fresh bun, I added extras onions mushroom cheese, it was delicious. My partner had lasagne, it came with chips or garlic bread but the chef sent out both in leiu of salad as requested and was also top quality. Will definitely be back to try the...

Had a lovely Sunday dinner here, the choice of veg was excellent compared to other places, the meat was spot on and they even have a load of pork crackling which you don’t usually get other places. The staff were spot on too, very helpful and the chef took the time to go round the tables and ask if everything was ok which again adds a personal touch.
