The pub is delightful with lovely decor. Great location right off the A30. The staff, particularly the male members of the waiting staff are really professional, knowledgeable and friendly on all three days we stayed. Both managers we met were also very personable and helpful. The room was very clean and very large in size, boutique in style and decor. Huge bathroom with freestanding bath and huge walk in shower . So it should have been perfect right? ||Unfortunately this is where the hotel let itself down:-||There are clearly not enough staff waiting particularly on Saturday night. |The menu is very samey and not enough choice if you have people staying for more than a couple of nights. We ended up having steak (which was very nice) two nights running because there is so little choice|Breakfast particularly today (Sunday) when most people I would guess want to be served quickly for their onward journey, was disorganised and slow, with the poor very efficient waiter all over the place, while a young girl seemed content to stand and natter to the hotel manager on reception. The manager did give us £10 refund for the long wait to be served though|Again menu great for hot choices but absolutely no continental choice apart from muesli. The tables are often not laid, which resulted in asking for cutlery. No side plates or knives provided for toast. For the standard they obviously want to offer it did fall short|We had a great stay in Cornwall and great weather so that was the bonus.||As a point: We went to the Plume's sister hotel in Newquay for afternoon tea, Lewinnick Lodge. Whilst the views are amazing, I certainly wouldn't stay there. Huge restaurant which was brash and noisy and clearly there to cater for non residents. Don't waste your money on the extra for the sea view. Afterall you're not in your room all day (normally) and there are so many amazing sea views in Cornwall you can see for free!|Lastly a tip if you want to visit St Ives. DON'T drive there. We caught a train from St Erth (11 minutes with wonderful bay views) and no hassle trying to find somewhere to park. Right in the town so easy. We went in March and it was busy busy. Goodness knows what it's like in the height...

We came here for the first time last week as it was on Cornwalls recommended pubs of the year list. We had booked a table earlier in the day for 4 people and 2 dogs. The dog area in the restaurant was fully booked but they asked if we were ok to sit in the bar, which was fine. We arrived on time and the lady seating people told us she had put us on a specific table because we had 2 small dogs but when we were taken through there were people already on the table drinking who we found out were locals and the lady seemed extremely hesitant to move them even though they were just drinking and had already been there 40 minutes. We were sat at a very large table instead which was sticky and no place to really hold the dogs as the other table had a bench seat ideal for us. She said if we weren't happy then she could ask them to move soon. She went off and another man came over to give us menus. We asked him if they could give the locals a heads up that we were going to need that table as we had booked it specifically and were told we could have it. He huffed and puffed and rolled his eyes muttering things under his breath and stormed off. He came back a few minutes later and slammed the cutlery on the table saying "you will be having dinner at THIS table." We were astounded at his attitude and find the whole Cornwall local vs tourist thing extremely bizarre, especially because they were only drinking and we were celebrating my mums retirement. We complained to the original lady and about 10 minutes after (we were just about to leave) the man came over and his demeanour had completely changed and he was speaking with such joy as he told us the locals were going to move. He was nothing but sweetness and light for the rest of the evening so he must have been told to buck up and judging by some of these other review here, I'm guessing it won't have been the first time. The rest of the evening was fine, food was very good and I would have increased my rating to 3 stars for this but the main course took 1 hour to come out after our starters. We spent over £200 and although the food and wine were worth it, the attitude and wait times mean we will not be coming again. Locals were...

5* for the staff, food, ambience, drinks, cleanliness, bedroom 💕

1* for sleep which is kind of what you pay for when you treat yourself to a night away. 😴

I haven’t left one bad review yet (you can check!) and hate to do this but we are shattered and I’m grumpy.

The service was bloody amazing. Harriet was absolutely lovely, and we commented on how she really did make our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and she was such an asset to the business and the perfect person to be at front of house. The food was really good too, both dinner and breakfast. I could see they were understaffed behind the bar as there was a big wait on drinks but everyone was working so hard to keep everyone pleased which is admirable. The staff all seemed to really care.

I was looking forward to leaving a lush 5* review because we love it here. We also stay at Lewinnick lodge lots for any special occasions and we love the rooms, food and staff which is the same for Plume of Feathers. We’ve had a tough week and we’re looking forward to getting a proper good sleep before travelling today.

The reason for the two stars is because of how we feel today having been woken up at 4:30am by what sounded like beer kegs being moved around, doors banging, people stamping around, draws opening and closing, clattering around. We hoped it would stop but it carried on and come 6:30am we just gave up and got up. Sad we couldn’t have gone back to bed but we had to get on the road.

I’m not kidding it was like they were in our bedroom. Sorry but on a Saturday morning at 4:30am when you have guests in the room attached, how is this a good idea?! I’m impressed anyone was working at that time so 10/10 for commitment.

We were in room 1.

We did explain this in the morning and paid in full. I am not your average complainy person but I’d have expected something by way of a gesture considering the disturbance.

I really genuinely hope that management read this and re-consider logistics because I don’t wish this upon any future guests!

Jo, Ben...

I was recommended this place to stay at whilst working recently in Newquay by some colleagues. I had previously stayed in a hotel in Newquay that will remain nameless, but it should have been called Fawlty Towers as the bathroom decor was probably from the same era. So I was so happy when I arrived at the Plume to find the accomodation was not only amazing, but it was so unique in its location and setup. They all seem like like private villas that used to be farm building in previous lifetime. The attention to detail and landscaping was stunning. My room was No.5, a deluxe double I believe weighing in at £126 a night (without any breakfast, which is £15). The room was immaculate, and big. The decor was very well done, modern and different to the normal hotel. The bed was big and comfortable with super crisp linen that smelt super fresh, the duvet was nicely weighted but not too hot. The bathroom was enormous, a big open plan affair with annexes, one containing a walk in rainfall shower (and it had a standard one for those with long hair). The sink and mirror was seperate in the room, the freestanding bath looked very appealing and the toilet was in a big room off the bathroom with a privacy door. Plenty of parking with electric points for Tesla and other electric models. Really enjoyed my 2 nights here, so quiet and luxurios. My one gripe is that the door to enter the property is 90% glass with a blind, so there was a lot of light pollution from the outside lighting during the night and when dawn arrived. Maybe as a suggestion change these blinds for blackout model to stop the light coming in.

Stay Away! Overpriced! Scammers and misleading room photos! We were given a completely different room to what is being advertised/booked, with a small 50cm window that would not open for ventilation. We booked a deluxe double room, upon our arrival we questioned this and we were told that "it's the bank holiday weekend and this is the only available room". Then we should not be charged for a room that you can not offer. We asked for an upgrade and suggested to pay extra and they said that this is the traditional cornish architecture and no other rooms are available. Then why is this not advertised as it is (traditional cornish) and they have misleading photos of completely different rooms? We requested refund they declined, had to chase this via booking who partially refunded us after confirming we have been scammed. I am attaching chat with booking. The property manager refused to reply to ourselves or booking and they completely ignored our calls, emails and messages through the app. We drove 5.5h from London and had no other options regarding staying, we wish we had never booked with them since their behaviour and attitude was completely unprofessional, unacceptable and absurd. The mosts stressful experience I ever had as a client ever. I am attaching not only photos of the room but also proof of attempt to contact the property.

We did not stay at the hotel but did visit this location for dinner. They are dog friendly which is great, they have. A good size parking area right at the side. It is in a nice location and easy to get to. We did ring to book a table with a dog and this was possible. Due to having a dog, you are seated at the bar area, this is totally okay but having a god right next to the bar when it also gets busy was not our favourite, we would order if having a dog, to be sat just off the side in that area rather than just in front. We chose this place as it looked stunning online, good looked great, but there are 2 sections, for the dogs, you sit on the pub bar side and when you want to go out for a nice dinner, you are around lots of people drinking which was maybe not as nice. The food was amazing, starters, main and desert, we had a mix of meat and fish, all food was rated very well and would come back for the food again but would prefer a different spot with a dog. Staff was very friendly, and would recommend this restaurant!
