An unassuming little country pub that's out of the way and unlikely to get much passing trade. However it is popular with the locals and anyone staying in the area who are Googling for somewhere to eat. Whichever it can get busy and booking, especially for the Sunday lunch is recommended. To be honest it looks better in the evening than it does in the day, but there's a pleasant outside area if you prefer. Either way, the food is excellent, all was well cooked and presented, with each dish appearing to be homemade. There's obviously someone in the kitchen that knows what they are doing, and you can't say that very often. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, you couldn't ask for more. Dog friendly and a car park.

Afraid to say had quite a poor experience here. Had to pre-order our meals due to the large family booking which is fine, ordered a kids meal with peas. It arrived with Beans which happy to accept a communication error on the phone call but when we turned the meal away and said we asked for peas as the child didn’t like beans it was quickly brought back out to us stating we’d ordered beans so you’ve got beans.... no offer to swap or or an invitation for a side order of peas for the child. A photo included below of my heavily over-microwaved lasagne too, very disappointing overall.

We had a meal while on holiday. Went in and straight away had excellent banter with the chap behind the bar and some locals made you feel at home. We ordered beef bourguignon and beef dirty fries both are delicious. I fancied bread an butter pudding but asked is it like mum used to make?. Well I had the best pudding I have ever had in a pub absolutely amazing 👏. If we live here we would definitely call it our local. Can not recommend thus pub enough.

Had a lovely meal here 18/09/25. The creamy garlic mushrooms and hot buttered prawns were great. We could actually taste the mushrooms and prawns, enhanced by their respective sauces rather than being overwhelmed by the sauce. The steak main course did not disappoint either. Cooked just right and everything else on the plate was tasty. The portion size was more than generous. Plates that were full, it reminded us of how steak meals used to be back in the 90s right down to having a whole tomato rather than the usual half that is the norm these days, and all of it was quality produce. Made the mistake of ordering an extra side of onion rings. There were enough on the plate already! The young lady that served us was delightful as was the older gentleman in the apron (owner?) that also served. It's also obvious that the people in the kitchen know what they are doing. It's an expensive affair dining out these days but on this occasion, the meal was worth every penny. We also appreciate that no 'service' charge was automatically added to the bill nor was it suggested when we paid that we left a tip. I'll be honest and say that we rarely tip due to a meal, the service or both, being poor when we eat out. On this occasion I had to ask the bar man if I could leave a tip. So I tipped. Because it was well deserved. Thanks to all involved for a...

I went there with my family tonight for the first time since the new owner took over, and as we’d been there many times before i did notice that the menu had become much more limited with more unique meals. As a picky eater I found it difficult to choose what to have - hence the four stars - as I also wasn’t presented with a children’s menu (I’m not even sure if they had one) which would have much simpler foods that i would like. I also noticed that there was not many options for vegetarians, there was maybe one or two. Apart from the authentic, yet small choice of meals they had to offer, the waitresses were lovely and made us feel welcome, the owner was lovely too and even sat down and had a chat with us when he wasn’t busy, and the service was very quick and well carried out. I just think that older/wiser folk would enjoy this pub more as it doesn’t offer typical pub grub, and could be appealing to those looking for a fancier place to eat, that has reasonable prices, and has fairly large portions. I recommend this pub to any family with older teenagers or above, or couples who have no children at all, mainly for the fact that the meal options are limited, and not suitable for picky eaters. But other than that, it...

Family of nine adults and four children enjoyed a locally Sunday 70th birthday meal in the skittles room. Food was delicious and all portions (adults and childrens) were a generous size. Highly recommend the roast lamb and brownie & ice-cream dessert. The sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake were also very tasty. Great choice of homemade desserts.

The staff were great and very accommodating and cleared up some broken glass quickly and provided replacement ice-cream.

Minor negatives were: the toilets off the skittles room (which were clean) had very strong /overpowering scented toilet blocks which was the first thing we could smell when entering the skittles room. one of the lasagne portions was not very hot the pork chops didn't come with vegetables (as far as we were aware) but we had table vegetables from the roasts so shared these out.

So the food was wonderful and we will be returning...
