Although we live in Telford, after an earlier chance visit en route from Carding Mill; we now go out of our way to eat at The Pound Inn. This is beautiful pub food, done well. The team are friendly and attentive, while the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. My husband and I decided to go for a simple bread and olive oil starter with dukkah spices. We weren't sure what dukkah spices were, but it turned out they were delicious. A fresh baked ciabatta was served with a gorgeous, sweet balsamic vinegar in a delicate olive oil. The spices are a mix of seeds including coriander and cumin as well as crushed nuts. Lovely sprinkled over warm, buttered bread. My husband's rib eye steak was perfectly cooked, with succulent, tender meat. A large grilled, seasoned mushroom and impressive battered onion ring also featured. Then there were chips. Oh, the chips!! Absolutely divine! Chunky cut, golden and crispy on the outside, while fluffy inside. I had went for a prawn sandwich and swapped the crisps out for the chunky chips (and I'm so glad I did). The Pound aren't skimping on sandwich filling and my sandwich was overflowing with sweet prawns in just the right amount of Marie rose. With so many options to choose from we'll definitely be going back, not least because we were too full to try...
Read moreNEW ENTRY : 9.9 23 . I almost dont want to say this but Im going to. I did say we wouldnt come again but We did and regretting it at my leisure. I really dont know how a place that used to be good has declined to a poor place. Honestly I have had better at a road side diner. .I want to discuss the food but it only leaves me feeling depressed. How can you get baked beans wrong! No no I'm not going any further. .....The end. OLDER ENTRY. where does one begin. Birthday meal out with the family. Thia curry was awful, my daughter nearly broke her teeth on the star anise which has been left in the curry. Not just one piece where it could be forgiven but four pieces. The meal just didn't taste right. The steak and blue cheese pie, the filling was good but a very very hard pastry case. Savoy cabbage and bacon lardons with cream, it was drowning in a very thin cream sauce, I felt like I should of offered it a life jacket. Creme brulee looked coddled and served with what was supposed to be a short bread biscuit, try soft and stale biscuit. The list goes on but I will save my breath and money. Very...
Read moreThe Pound deserves to dominate the pub grub market throughout their county. It is unbelievable whilst on a major arterial route (A5/A49/Asomethingelse) that there are so few places to pull off the main road without having to follow signs to pubs miles away that closed down years ago! They were welcoming and very helpful about us parking our car and caravan unit (fortunately they have a good sized carpark). We ate outside in their swiss style dining pods/sheds - what a great experience under cover, protected from both the weather and other people because of covid. The food was great, especially when you have travelled that extra half hour of hunger because there was nowhere else for a proper traveller's rest. We enjoyed our brief break and were grateful to the staff for their happy approach in such miserable weather and difficult times. We wish we could say we will be back but as we were traveling home with another 2.5 hours to go it is unlikely but we do hope others on long journeys will have a similar...
