🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Hidden Gem in Bude – Preston Gate Delivers Big Flavour We had an outstanding meal at the Preston Gate in Bude and it deserves every one of these five stars. The sole with potatoes was a standout—perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, and bursting with flavour. Simple ingredients, elevated to something special. But the real surprise? The beef dirty fries. Wow. The sticky beef coating was rich and indulgent, layered with depth and just the right amount of sweetness. And the chips? Still crisp, not a hint of sogginess—clearly made with care and attention to detail. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and food that punches well above its weight. Highly recommend if you're anywhere near Bude. We'll definitely be back.

Food was ok/good. We had two Sunday roasts; one beef & one mixed (beef & pork). The food quality was very average, the meat was overdone/dry, the roast potatoes lacked crisp, but it was fairly tasty & plentiful. The service was good; they were attentive & friendly and it’s a nice pub. You have to drive down quite a bit of single track/narrow road to get there. I wouldn’t return for a Sunday roast because it didn’t wow me, which aside from fish & chips was all you could order as a main on a Sunday (according to their menu), but I might return again & order something else. My partner had the trio of ales, which at £5 we thought was reasonably priced, but the small pineapple juice at £3.30 was overpriced.

We went to the Preston Gate Inn in Bude to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Reservations are recommended. It is a lovely, cosy Inn with a very good selection of drinks, a friendly atmosphere and good food at a medium but reasonable price. My rump steak was absolutely delicious and my wife’s cod & chips was ok, though a tad overcooked. We were entertained during dinner by two live sea shanty singing groups. The service was friendly, responsive & attentive. Cudos to all the staff. It’s very dog friendly and has an inviting open fireplace. The menu was a bit limited but is different every day - ours was steak night. We will definitely be back and will bring our dogs with us next time. Highly recommended!

Telephoned to make a booking for Sunday lunch & was advised they had a table for 4:45. Approximately 20 minutes later I received a call to say that there was a mix up with their booking system but we could still go but only have the table for 1hour. We said that was ok.

On arrival we discovered there is very limited parking but managed to find a parking space. This made us approximately 5 minutes late.

On entering a member of staff said hello & then out her arm out to stop us entering any further. I advised we had a booking & my name was taken, she then advised our table was not ready yet so if we would like to order drinks at the bar. Whilst stood at the bar we was given the menu by the friendly lady behind the bar. The lady who spoke to us when we entered said to her, yeah get their ordered in asap as they have limited time on the table!!

It was the Sunday menu which is Sunday lunch or Fish & chips. ( we knew this prior to going).we ordered the Sunday lunch .my partner ordered beef & she asked if he wanted a large. He said yes. I ordered mine whilst my partner was being shown to our table. I required the vegetarian but without the polenta slice. I went & sat down & to say we had a limited time on the table our food didn’t arrive until 6.10.

Both portions looked the same which I thought was strange as my partner had ordered a large but I didn’t. It came with 1 piece of roasted parsnip (menu states roasted parsnips. 6 small roast potatoes. (Very leathery). Medium sized Yorkshire pudding.we was brought 1 dish of vegetables which was red cabbage & swede. ( the swede seemed like it was puréed & not a nice texture) for £17 for large £10 for normal.

When we got the receipt we had been charged for 2 large. (Neither was large portions) . I advised I had not ordered a large. So they reprinted my receipt with a standard for 1 pint -1/2 a pint & 2 Sunday lunches it came to £33.20 & in all honesty I have had better Sunday dinners at our local carvery.

The staff where mostly friendly, the place is quiet dark & a few flies about.

Would I recommend it....

How do I start this? I’ve just turned 11 years old and type 1 diabetic ;it is important that I have food or I can end up in hospital. Anyway I will tell you the truth about what happened at Preston Gate.

So to start we were excited because we had been there a couple of years ago.We arrived at 18:00pm(4/8/24)we ordered a few minutes after six pm every thing was going normal. The drinks came roughly 10 minutes later which is really good timing. My dad got his start 30 minutes later (which is a bit slow) it get worse! 15 minutes later I’m all ready feeling rubbish because of my condition; my mum asked the staff to get the food.15 minutes later my mum asks again and again - 3 members of staff who all said it would be 5 mins. I felt faint and sick and nobody was listening to my parents as I was so hungry and felt awful. My mum went in and had a horrible experience with other staff - who said it was busy and what did we expect. She had already asked just for my meal and that I’d got Type 1!!! We finally got our food at 7.35pm after so many other tables who arrived after us were served with food. How ignorant of a restaurant and especially with my life threatening condition - Preston Gate you are ignorant and should be embarrassed - I advocate for myself and never felt so frightened and worried not to have been listened too. Please don’t go there if you have a medical condition like me -...

A fantastic Sunday roast and dessert, in a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating! Unfortunately, the experience was tainted by a leather faced slapper (“Kayleigh”…should be called Karen) sat behind us outside. We have a rescue pup and asked the staff, to put us outside away - so we didn’t disturb anyone eating or drinking inside. I fully appreciate, it can be annoying if a dog is restless and barking; when you’re trying to enjoy a pint in peace. But, like babies cry, dogs bark - I can’t help that, I tried my best to quiet him down, and I apologise if it did really disrupt people’s evenings that much.

Unfortunately, Madge from Benidorm behind us was making snide comments and loud remarks, in the garden aimed at us and the dog. She claimed she couldn’t hear herself talk… maybe her ears are the only part of her body, that hadn’t some sort of surgery or work on. What really annoys me, is someone who doesn’t have the guts, to approach and challenge, but make immature comments across a garden full of punters.

Again, beautiful location, lovely food and very friendly, accommodating staff. But, I hope your experience isn’t ruined by a stuck up, entitled, Steven Tyler lookalike being aggravated in a...
