We came in as a party of 8 having eaten here before. Friendly efficient service. The place is clean and well cared for inside and out and is dog friendly. Having ordered 2 steaks- one sirloin, the other a rib eye, my Dad’s ribeye was very gristly and he barely ate any of it leaving the cut up remnants on his plate. The waiting staff took it away having asked how the meal was and having been informed that the steak was tough said absolutely nothing and offered no apology despite the amount of “meat” left behind. I would have thought that a refund of this meal or some gesture of goodwill might have been offered as my Dad barely ate a mouthful of the £25 steak. When we enquired about this meal being knocked off the bill the waiter said “what you need to realise is that ribeye IS fatty” Please don’t patronise us, we know the difference between gristle and fat. Had we known they would not offer is a reduced bill, we wouldn’t have stayed longer and ordered dessert.. All restaurants can have issues with some of the food they serve but this problem could have been resolved professionally and fairly and the resulting review here would have been glowing. Poor customer service costs restaurants repeat business - not to mention the all Important loss of word of mouth recommendations. Such a shame as all other meals were lovely and no complaints, but we won’t be back on the basis that we left...
Read moreDisappointing visit with family. Initially very accommodating, relocating us to enable us to have a table our dog could join us at. Sadly went downhill from there. Ordered 2 T-Bone steaks rare. They came medium at best, more like Med- well done. No blood at all and a tiny bit of pink. Picture below. We sent them back as they weren’t cheap only to be rudely told we were wrong and the chef said they are rare. They had none left so what did we want. The attitude left us pretty annoyed. We sent one back and ate the other. The other meals were OK. Sea Bass was on the small size for the price. Roast was an excellent size with loads of food for the price but tough over cooked beef. Lovely cauliflower cheese. Kids meals were all good but expensive. £7-8 with no drink or pudding included. Almost as much as an adult.
At the end, the owner came to discuss the issues. There was never an attempt at an apology or an admission they were wrong. Only an admission it was the end of a busy weekend. Overall a disappointing meal. Came to £96 for 2 adults and 5 kids as they didn’t charge for the steaks. One drink each and no starters or desserts so on the...
Read moreNot a friendly place, neither bar staff or regular customers, not dog friendly. Our friends rented one of the cottages at the rear of the pub and invited us over so we could have a drink and later a meal in the pub. My friend and I went in at 16.00hrs for a pint with our dogs much to the disgust of barman & customers sat at the bar, their facial expressions said it all. We ordered drinks and were told to get out of the restaurant area which was empty, it was never our intention to drink in the restaurant area anyway. It was obvious both customer & barman did not like people with dogs, there was dialogue back & forth then the barman told us to 'foxtrot oscar' or words to that effect. I forgot to mention that I am 73 years old & my friend 68. We did as the barman said & left before even buying the drinks he pulled for us. We will not be returning. Our friends who rented the adjacent cottage were so discussed that they packed up & returned home the next day. The silver lining that evening was a lovely meal & pleasant staff at The Borough...
