Visited The Queen's Head for the first time on a hot Sunday 24 June 2018 for an early evening meal after booking a table on the previous day.

We found pub easily with it just off the A5 on the turn off marked Queens Head, named after the village where The Queen's Head pub is. A large car park is situated alongside the The Queen's Head pub with more parking available on the other side of the road. A number of tables were situated at the front of The Queen's Head and a wrought iron decorative fence and gate seperates this area from the local road.

On entering The Queen's Head through the front door we noticed the several rooms to left and right of this area. There were 4 real ale handpulls beers on offer and we opted for half of Stonehouse Off the Rails, after being offered a sample . A nice dark beer well kept showing why The Queen's Head is at present in the Good Beer Guide for this year. We were shown to our table in a pleasant conservatory on the side of The Queen's Head. The natural light was welcoming and the view over the local countryside added to the natural feeling of the space.

We ordered food from large A3 menus with numerous additional items on the specials board on the wall of the room.

We found that the food was large in quantity but generally average in quality with my wife finding her steak rather fatty compared to other steaks we have sampled recently. The huge amount of mashed carrots that was one of the two side orders of vegetables was not liked by my son and wife , we later noticed later customers being served with whole carrots. My son really liked his lamb shank and mashed potato meal.

A very nice quality of service and pleasant surroundings but I feel the food...

Edit: We've been again twice in recent weeks with friends (Oct/Nov 2022), and we still love this place. We don't eat meat anymore, but there's still a decent choice of options for veggies. The only problem is trying not to overheat! Today I had goats cheese fritters which were gigantic, wild mushroom and mascarpone risotto (supposedly starter-sized portion but it was very generous!) and a side of chips. All the food was delicious. Could barely move afterwards we were so full. I really love this place. Friendly staff, delicious food in an unpretentious setting, a varied menu, and very reasonable prices. Homemade pizzas are fantastic, as are the more "fancy" dishes, and the quality of the meat is excellent. Great for an evening meal at a corner table with my other half, but also for informal food outside with friends after a summer's bike ride. We've also had lovely meals with bigger family groups. Just a great, relaxed atmosphere, and my partner and I both commented at our last visit that we're so grateful somewhere like this is so close to home. We really hope they continue to be successful, as the Oswestry area is lucky to have the Queen's Head. I would always choose somewhere like the Queen's Head over a "fancier" place that tries to cater to a higher end crowd, but fails to deliver on the basics. The Queen's Head has delicious food, great service, and doesn't break the...

To give a one star is an over exagerantance..can't give any lower.. Just left there after a terrible meal.. Had starters which were OK but the mains were the disappointment. Had two lamb meals and a paella.. The pealla was stodgy and wasn't excused when I asked.. But the real issue was the one lamb meal my son had.. We found an inch length screw in amongst the offering...!, when I asked the so called manager about it at the bar she made a flippant apology and said she'd take it off the bill! I was mortified.. I asked to speak to the head chef and was told that he would be down as he was upstairs doing paperwork. When I'd waited 20mins for him to appear, I was then told that he wasn't even there! She beimg the so called manager for the evening told me that she was sorry but he had gone home! Not happy, and totally disappointed and let down, embarrassed and angry by all this..... Any suggestions...? My only fault was I gave them the screw, but should have kept hold... No one of any authority to deal with this.. Or any competent person at least.....further to above would like to think the main manager would be in touch following this complaint as this was not dealt with at the time.... I fact made to feel the guilty party which was well......

The food here is decent quality but I really must mention the outrageous prices for food. I fully appreciate we are in a cost of living crisis and bills/grocery prices are rising. However £15 for a salad or a vegetable pasta dish is crazy. A similar pasta dish at my local Italian restaurant in the Stockport area is £2 less. That is authentic Italian with fresh produce imported from Italy (I've seen the delivery vans). This is also in a restaurant that is in a high rent Cheshire village. I've noticed some incredible price hikes at pubs and restaurants and I'm sure some establishments are taking the mickey. Customers will only stand for so much and there comes a tipping point where they will just stop going - or find their local Wetherspoons! I really do want local businesses to thrive and try to support them as much as possible but we all have budgets these days.

Had a fantastic meal at the Queens head tonight. Hadn’t been for some time and was hoping that the food quality was as good as it used to be. Thankfully we weren’t disappointed. Everyone's food was fantastic. We had a wide variety of dishes and no one had any complaints at all. I personally had the steak and chips and it was as good as any I’ve had in a pub. Honestly couldn’t recommend their food enough. Staff were great as well and service was excellent. Really good choices on the menu. Lovely to see so many options for food allergies as well. Top class

We went to lunch - the pub is lovely and in a beautiful position (afterwards we walked along the canal, and saw a family of ducks at the nearby nature reserve). I had fish and chips, it did taste good, but the fish was maybe a little too greasy - the batter had really absorbed the oil. The portion sizes were fair. We also had dessert which went down a treat. We've been years ago before lockdown for Sunday lunch, and it was very good. I will need to get back for one of those!
