Fabulous! We know this pub from many years of visiting, but haven't been here for about 5 years. Oh my - what a wonderful ending to a long, long coastal walk! We arrived with our dogs hoping for a pint and late lunch. We were warmly greeted and seated at a table inside, with a great window view - all so welcome! Dog friendly too. We enjoyed our first taste of Cornish brewed Stout, moules, chips, stunning views, incredibly friendly service, good value, wonderful conversations with other customers and staff. Also spent a very happy couple of hours here another day - late afternoon into early eve - more Cornish Stout, olives and chips, sitting on comfy sofas on the outdoor terrace. Stunning views as the sun shone on us. Bliss. Highly...

This is a gem of a pub in the perfect location overlooking Polkeris Beach and St Austell Bay. There is a small amount of car parking for patrons of the pub but this appears to be used by anyone using the beach. There is a public car park that you pass on route to the pub higher up the steep access road. The pub was busy when we visited although we were able to get a table after a short wait. The staff were friendly and quite efficient and the menu was perhaps a little more adventurous than many other pubs. The pub has lots of character but also appears a little grubby with sticky tables and dirty cutlery. The food arrived promptly and was delicious, albeit the portions were too small, especially as the prices are a little on the high side. We had mains and a pudding but both the wife and I felt the need for a pasty on our way home despite my wife having the appetite of a budgie. Also note that despite the website claiming the pub is open all day for food, the kitchen closed whilst we were dining and customers wanting food were turned away. Perhaps a phone call to confirm. Overall, this pub sells itself on the location and so it doesn't have to try that hard. The pub is reasonably local to us and whilst we may rush back to the location, we will try the restaurant next door next time until we see reports that portion sizes...

Visited on NYD afternoon. Miserable blowy pissy weather but still good for a stomp up the beach with the little beast. I gather there may be times in the year when dogs are not allowed on the beach, but no hint of that in early Jan.
Parking is quite tight, but is free if you're using the pub! Plenty of signage to inform, simply give your reg at the bar.
Lovely atmosphere in the pub, Dan and the other staff whose names I unfortunately didn't catch were friendly and accommodating, and all a pleasure to chat to, chipper and enjoying what they do, despite the NYE hangover!
Was served a lovely cup of excellent coffee and an arguably better pint of well cared for ale.
My other half devoured the Sausages & Mash and I was presented with the most monstrous steamer of fresh Fowey mussels I've ever attempted. Absolutely perfectly done. Just. Nope. That's it, that's all that needs said.
Bit of a trek down from Wiltshire to become a regular, but I'm absolutely ducking in next time I'm down this way, these folks love what they do and they do it damn...
