For a MAJOR change from hot dogs, burgers and all the other staples offered by Brean we took a 10min drive to this great little pub sitting very picturesque at the foot of Brent Knoll. We had booked in advance, and just as well as it was very busy. Despite this our initial service was quick and pleasant. We ordered 2x roast of the day (turkey) and cheesy garlic bread with chips for the squirt. The chips were MASSIVE but obviously twice cooked as rhey were crispy yet soft inside. Indeed all of the food was well cooked and did not disappoint. The only negative for me was that as the pub was well booked, we were seated away from the busy main body and into what was clearly a bowling alley. With there being only one other party with us it felt rather lonely. I don't think it was intentional but it did feel like we'd been somewhat abandoned, though not neglected. I'd maybe install a TV or at the very least some background music. Well worth a visit (booking recommended)

After trying another carvery and struggling to find somewhere to eat late on a Sunday evening I chanced and called the Red Cow. So happy we did. Wayne (lovely gent who took the call) managed to squeeze us in on the last table available for a late roast. Most other venues at 18:30 would give you any number of excuses not to serve you what’s on the menu, or have run out of other options, but this pub was fantastic! The staff serving were more than welcoming and the food was delicious. Large lamb roast for £15 kids for £8. Beer excellent. Deserts were a little pricy at £7 but if you can point me towards a better lemon curd cheesecake I’ll eat my hat. We left with full belly’s and a note on local places to visit. Would highly recommend. PS toilets were spotless. This speaks volumes on any venue in my opinion.

Went to the local garden centre but didn't think much of the limited food they were serving for lunch, so my friend had visited this pub before and we thought we would give it a try. When we arrived it was quite busy and we hadn't booked but the lady managed to find us a table. The food was lovely and well priced. I particularly impressed with the homemade raspberry pavlova (1st photo), scampi (2nd photo), roast beef (3rd photo), beer battered chicken Gordon's (4th photo). The service was great too. I will be back.

.

I recently wrote a scathing review based upon the treatment of its customers; us!

This is very much a seasonal holiday maker type pub, certainly not a traditional 'olde world type'.

It had a few customers when we arrived at 7.30 but these left over the next 1 1/2 hours with no one replacing them.

We had been 'driven out' by lights being turned of at 9pm, (claimed to be accidentally) and behind the bar all closed up by 9.15 and we gave up and left at 9.30pm - with a very loud locking of the door behind us as we left .

Although food was okay I had observed some potentially significant poor hygeine practices with regard to cleaning tables and mats - yes, as we were still sat there when this was done moving us to gain access to these at at our table!

The landlord was mortiified at the review and aplogised for the poor customer service but explained they close the pub at 9.30 in the winter on weekdays - and was horrified no-one had had the manners to tallk to us and explain this. He apologised perfusely for us feeling intimidated to leave. He had not been there at the time.

I have heard nothing about my concerns regarding table and table mat methodology of cleaning - hopefully this will have caused them to review and change their practice.

We will return in a few months and see if it has, if not then I really will escalate my concerns but I suspect as with many things in life we develop short cuts and it isn't until they are pointed out that peoople notice them. Hopefully this will all have been recitified - by now even!

So I have improved my opinion of the rating from 1 to 3 because the landlord was not to blame for our dismal experience and hopefully he will have talked with his staff to avoid a repetition with any...

Disgusted at what came out of the bar man’s mouth to another member of staff!

We actually had a real good time, drinks was grate, food wasn’t bad, definitely not homemade coleslaw tho like stated on the menu. Your not fooling anyone with what ever that was you served us.

The staff was lovely and really helpful BUT when I was stood at the bar waiting for my drinks and the younger women who sounded like it might of been her first day on the job said to the barman “it’s hard to hear what’s going on with so many people talking all at once” the bar man’s reply was “IS THAT BECAUSE YOUR A SPASTIC?!” Leaving the young women uncomfortable and speechless. This is completely unacceptable for a man in his late 40s to be saying on shift to someone half his age trying to gain life experience.

I am more then happy to point out the man to the owner of the red cow as this TOXIC behaviour shouldn’t be anywhere near your business and...
