What a pleasant setting for a pub! We were on a cycling holiday and stopped for some well needed refreshment! Sitting outside across the road- virtually no traffic apart from an odd tractor, with a dry stone wall separating us from a flock of sheep. The evening was warm and was perfumed with flower blossoms. The beer, Sycamore Gap, named after local landmark, was delicious! The landlord and his wife were friendly and so were the locals too. The pub is a proper pub, old style, but with a contemporary feel. The toilets clean. We didn't try the food, but the menu had a good selection and it wasn't too pricey for the area. It does bed and breakfast and that was fine according to the other visitors we were talking to. The pub is near Hadrians Wall and the beer comes from the brewery at Twice Brewed, just by the wall. We made it our local while we stayed in the area, few miles up the road. There is a small car park, but safe to park on road as it's so quiet. We loved sitting outside enjoying the views and drinking the beer. We will certainly call in next time we're...

Just home n Edinburgh after staying in The Red Lion in Newbrough. Where do I start. It was one of the nicest B&B’s we have stayed in. Our room with an en-suite with a bath a rare occurrence these days. The room was well decorated and extremely clean. The en-suite was so clean and fresh and the bed was one of the comfiest I’ve slept in. My husband and I both had a brilliant sleep. We had our meal in the dining room and it was absolutely delicious. We were there with friends and their opinions are exactly the same as ours. The men both had the steak and ale pie with chips and their faces said it all “pure heaven”. Myself along with my friend both had The Mediterranean 5 bean hotpot with chips. What can I say it was so so delicious. We will definitely be thinking of going back as it was worth every single penny. I would definitely recommend that if you if you are in the area stay and have a meal there. I can guarantee that you will definitely not be...

We have visited The Red Lion for both bar meals and Sunday lunch on a number of occasions in the last 2 years.|No matter how much I recommend this place ( as do my family and friends) , people of Hexham and the Tyne Valley really don't know what they are missing.!!!|It's a 10 minute drive from Hexham!!!!|The food is home cooked, beautifully presented, extremely tasty and cracking value.|The owners and staff are lovely people who work their socks off to run a cracking business and deserve local support.|I have lived in Hexham for 35 years and have a family run hospitality business so know the effort required. |There are too many places churning out low cost, boil in the bag / microwave/ ready made meals etc of mediocre quality in the Hexham area.||So, book a table, and I promise you will not be disappointed at this...

An excellent venue for Sunday lunch with a pretty decent, mid range priced menu with traditional and more adventurous meals available, including a few for vegetarians. Families (and dogs) were very welcome. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was well presented, appetising, and a decent portion. The pub itself is a little olde worlde, and the real fires and stone floors add to the ambiance. The only slight negatives are that walking and talking through a bunch of locals at the bar make you feel a little of an outsider, and the washroom facilities were a little inaccessible for people with mobility difficulties. Those things aside, a lovely location, to be revisited next time we are in the area.

Dropped in on the off chance for Sunday lunch while passing through the area. Delightful old bar, friendly staff, and the best Sunday roast we've had for ages. Roast pork/roast beef, both meats tender and tasty, excellent Yorkshire puddings and perfectly cooked veg, all served piping hot. Couldn't have been better, thank you!

Great room, friendly staff, loved the little things in the room, extensions, iron, heater, dryer, etc. Dinner was amazing, breakfast was so tasty. Defo fell in love. Amazing experience and the price, bed and breakfast best ever for £85 for 2 people x
