We had booked a table for 2pm, I took my friend and my 12 years old daughter, sat at the bar had a drink 2.25pm we were shown to our table, after finally asking how long the wait was to get a reply of “I’m so sorry I don’t know what’s happened today” by the barman. We ordered the roast platter, unfortunately it came out stone cold, by the time the waiter had come to check on us we’d eaten most of it because we were so hungry!! I just felt the service was shocking and to have cold food was really disappointing!!! The only saving grace was that they didn’t charge us for our desserts, which indicated to me they knew it wasn’t great, nothing else was said we paid and left. Since writing this review yesterday, the pub published a Facebook post, about having rude, vile customers in. My friend penned a friendly email this morning to explain, what we felt they could have done better, and why we weren’t 100% Happy with the experience and to make sure the the Facebook post wasn’t aimed at us, given they had said we were “rude” “vile” and even worse “racist”! I am a local business owner so to be called racist is not only upsetting, but extremely damaging to my business! After trying to explain our situation on the Facebook post, it’s been deleted and I have now been blocked. Very upset with this aggressive response from a local pub where a lot of my friends go.

Came across this gorgeous little gem by chance, on the way from seven sisters walk. We sat in the glorious sunshine and had a couple beers, saw a sign for live music that evening and decided to come back for dinner, so glad we did. What a fun evening! Great music by one man band Paul 🎶🎸Excellent food, lovingly made and presented. Super reasonable too. And the chef kindly gave me 2 eggs for my hubgry doggy!! Cosy snug area dining, superb staff including lovely waitresses, Poppy being one of them. Would be back all the time if we lived in the area! Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

Lovely countryside pub, our group of 10 pre booked for a Thursday evening ahead of the busy bank holiday weekend. A fine selection of beers and ciders. We had 2 dining tables upstairs, nicely decorated and creative lighting. Mains all good but our diners x 2 were dissapointed with their pizza. Burgers, fish, gammon and other dishes all good. We walked from Rock Farm, 30 mins on foot. Paddy the Punk is there for the next 3 nights. Definitely recommend.

Tonight, our family of nine, including two little ones, ventured out to the rising sun while on our holiday and it turned out to be an evening of delightful surprises. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly accommodating, quickly arranging a table that comfortably fit our large group. It’s always a bit of a gamble dining out with a big family, but the rising sun made it feel like a breeze.

The menu offered a wide array of options, ensuring everyone found something to their liking. The kids' meals were a hit, with perfectly sized portions and classic choices that pleased even the pickiest eaters. For the adults, beef bourgeon stood out. The flavours were rich and well-balanced, clearly made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. What impressed us most was the attention to detail in each dish, from the presentation to the perfect blend of family food.

Beyond the food, the atmosphere played a huge role in making our evening special. The restaurant had a warm, inviting ambiance, striking a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. The service remained attentive throughout our meal, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. It’s rare to find a place that caters so well to both adults and children, but the rising sun truly excelled. We left with full bellies and even fuller hearts, already planning our next visit. If you're looking for a place that combines great food with a family-friendly atmosphere, this is it.

The owner ray even came out and had a good chat with us just before we left and was so warm and welcoming! Even giving our little nephew a little surprise before leaving!

Thank you to all the team at...

Went for Sunday lunch (booked) with friends from overseas. In short, the food was nice but the service was poor. Booking was for 12.00 and there appeared to be only one member of staff dealing with the bar and the arriving patrons. Finally seated at 12.10. There was a piano under the stairs and right next to our table which was being played by a pleasant enough pianist however, I couldn't hear the conversation at our table as we were right next to the piano. Nice idea but not right next to diners. We had to wait for any menus to be presented and had to ask in the end. It appeared that all effort was being put into making sure the large party of patrons seated upstairs were ok and very little attention paid to anyone else. As I said above, the meal (when it finally arrived) was very nice but the staff seemed to be leaderless and often forgot that, for example, further drinks had been ordered. They apologised and said it was really busy. If you have bookings, why do you not have enough staff to cope? Following another delay in receiving the dessert menu and being told there was no more bread and butter pudding (after ordering it), we finally left at just before 2.00pm, just as the next sitting were arriving so the bar and entry/exit was mayhem.

Nice food but poor service. Will we go...
