Visited this pub today as we are holidaying in the village and was keen to support the local businesses. However I genuinely feel that there are health risks at this pub that customers need to be aware of. When we arrived we were the only people in the bar area, despite this, the lady behind the bar forgot to provide us 2 or our drinks (we had ordered only 4), so we had to ask for these. Our food took approximately an hour - I am not sure if this is the standard wait time but there certainly was no apologies for this and nobody told us there would be a higher than average wait. We wasn't overly worried about the long wait - until my partner was eating his steak and ale pie only to find it was still frozen in the middle. When he returned this and asked for a refund he was given £9.30 (despite the meal costing £14). The barwoman said this was due to the discount we had received on food (I've since discovered from looking on Facebook that on a Wednesday there should be 1/3 off food), however we received no discount so basically was refunded 2/3 of a frozen meal. My partner did eventually get his full meal discounted but had to go up to the bar several times to get it sorted. It would have been nice to get the discount that is stated online but respectfully, the food would not have been worth the discounted rate either. Another significant concern is that whilst we was up the bar (on the third occasion, trying to resolve the mix up of the refunded meal), the resident dog had climbed onto our table and was eating directly off the plates. This obviously raises serious concern about hygiene, and may explain why the cutlery we was given was filthy and...
Read moreThe decor was great, welcome was nice, tables were well spaced, although strangely we were positioned at a table less than a metre from another table when the rest of the room was empty. The service was unfortunately terrible, wait time on food was 50 minutes from order, of 2 steaks and a kids sausage and chips. The food was worse. Chips were raw and greasy, mushrooms poured grease onto plate, steak was terribly cooked we ordered med rare and both received leather. The salad leaves dripped with balsamic oil were tasty, although half the mushroom grease was on top of them. When we were asked if we wanted any other sauces we both said hmm ketchup please, that was the last we saw of anyone until my wife finished her last mouthful, we were asked how everything was, I responded in a very iffy manner the lady smiled and walked off. Tbh we just wanted to leave, we went to the till, paid and left. No further comment made or questions asked. The only plus points were thst we managed to have a draught pint with our meal and they offer 50% off. We wanted to like this place and their food as we are very local, and our own local has gone down hill significantly. While we want to support our local businesses and want to support the pub and hospitality industry this wasn't a good experience. Very...
Read moreOverall I think the quality of food was well below par . One of the children’s lasagna had a pool of oil once she opened the top. My partners belly pork was burnt and covered in fat and came without gravy which they decided to replace with peas that had a pale green colour showing they had been sat all day. The mash potato could’ve been shot out of a cannon at Charlestown. The chips were hideous that accompanied my steak and we’re of a dark brown colour and not freshly cooked or even cut properly Even on my worst day of cooking I could produce food of a much higher quality The bill ended up being £79 Which compare to the quality of food was highly overpriced and even at £50 I would’ve thought was too expensive And for that price I could’ve gone to a high end restaurant eaten some food of high-quality The outside of the establishment looks nice and tidy but the inside paints a different picture. The staff were polite And you can’t go wrong with the drinks as there straight from the bottle or a tap but that is all I can say about this...
