Visited on Saturday 7th December for a family meal out. Large car park to the rear and some available at the front. Pub is quite deceiving and quite small inside. We didnt opt for a starter but straight to the mains. I had the Beef, which came with Red pickled cabbage, quite strange and tasted awful, pigs in blankets, 2 roast potatoes and some stuffing and a few sprouts. My wife had the Turkey, which had the same accompaniments and my sisters had the Ox cheeks. For the price i would have expected more than 2 roast potatoes and maybe a Yorkshire pudding? The potatoes were nice as were the Pigs in blankets and stuffing okay, however the Beef was just pure fat and gristle (see photos) and the veg that came out was rotten(see photos) so did the chef and the servers not see this, yet still sent it out and delivered to the table. No one enjoyed the red cabbage, although they said the Turkey was quite nice as were the ox cheeks and the kidneys. Once the main meal was finished the waitress collecting my plate asked if my meal was okay and i just mentioned how awful the beef and veg was. I didnt want to make a big deal or a scene as i was out with my family. A lady then appeared at the table (assume the landlady/owner) who not only challenged me regarding my meal, but basically called me a liar twice!! I said i didnt enjoy the beef as it was just pure fat and gristle and that i wouldnt have gave it to my dogs, she then said the that wasnt true - (see photos) which i showed to her. I then said i didnt appreciate rotten veg, she again said it wasnt true - (see photos). After showing the photos, she then called me rude?? I said i did not ask for her to come over as i wasnt going to complain or make a scene and was certainly not asking for any reduction in my final bill. This may have been a one off but didnt appreciate being challenged or spoken to in this manner. She did however reimburse the cost of my main meal. The desserts we had were Chocolate orange cheesecake, poached pear and Gingerbread pudding. All desserts were okay and the best part of the meal. Maybe the days of the "Customer is always right" is now dead? Suggest not questioning a customer or calling them a liar in future. As i mentioned, i was not even going to complain, but the lady came over to me, and if she had been more professional my review would have reflected that fact. I suggest speaking to your chefs and to carry out more quality checks before sending out sub standard food.

Gorgeous food, last time I ate here was over 30 years ago, will definitely not be waiting that long before we return. There were 20 of us dining, celebrating a bday Table booked 7.00 & starters came out 7.45, a long wait. We hadn't ordered a starter & didn't want to add any more pressure in ordering another starter so order some chips as we were hungry & guessed it would be at least another 40 mins before mains would be served. Mains serviced around 8.30-9.45.We had Seabass, gorgeous. We were eyeing up others chicken pie, which we were told was really lovely; so will go back to try that out. Puddings were very nice. Forgot to take pics of food as too busy talking but they did a happy birthday pud for our friend, nice touch. No music so not much of an atmosphere, not sure if they usually play music, I'm guessing not. We were a large group so we really didn't need any back ground noise. Waitresses did a good service but were rather miserable in my opinion, not very welcoming considering we were spending a small fortune. Drinks as you would expect were expensive £11 for a glass of Malbec, but it was really nice, easy to drink. Chairs were uncomfortable, some sort of lattice effect & my delicate derriere was still sore the following evening. Beer garden looked nice. Lovely building & clean toilets. Despite the wait the chef & kitchen staff are an asset to this business, well done

I stopped for dinner at The Rose & Crown on a cold and dark autumn evening. The pub was very warm and welcoming after a rather wet and cold walk. It has a very classic pub aesthetic, with nice comfy seating and a big rustic bar. They have a great selection of drinks available, from local beers and ciders to a wide range of gins - the wine list was also fantastic and very affordable. The food offering was fantastic. The food was delicious and surpassed my expectations. My table shared some of their ‘Nibbles’ to start off with - I would highly recommend the Chorizo and the Whipped Honey Feta with Pitta. For main course I had Sausages and Mash. The quality and flavour was excellent, and I throughly enjoyed the meal. The service was equally as good as the food, and was the perfect balance of friendliness and efficiency. I also found the menu and drinks all very reasonably priced for the quality. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at The Rose & Crown, and I would highly recommend a visit.

Huge disappointment, long wait between starter and main both tables next to us had both finished their mains/puddings before we received our main, the starters were pate (can’t really do this one wrong) and devilled kidneys, the sauce was lovely but the kidney was slightly undercooked. When the mains did arrive the carbonara looked like it had been heated in the microwave as it was gloopy and surrounded by oil, the pasta was over cooked to the point it didn't even need to be cut, (there certainly was no swirling round the fork needed) the sauce was bland as was the chicken which had no flavour or colour, topped with a sprinkle of cold tempura courgette, huge disappointment and was inedible. The other main lamb rump came with dauphinoise potatoes that were much hotter than anything else on the plate (again clearly microwaved), the purple sprouting broccoli was woody and the ends had not been cut (looked like they had been snapped). The lamb tasted fine but was overcooked. When these issues were raised with staff, they were defensive/bordering on rude, a bit of face pulling etc They did remove the pasta main from the bill and offered a half hearted apology. I understand this is not fine dining, however all in all the food and service was poor and staff didn’t seem that bothered. Will not return and definitely do...
