We enjoying the Life (GaryLindaChester)We enjoying the Life (GaryLindaChester)
After a long walk around Lud's Church and The Roaches, we were delighted with our choice of the Rose and Crown pub for our meal. Although it was our first time visiting (but not our last), it was nighttime and quite dark, and I initially had trouble finding a place to park my car. However, I soon discovered that parking was relatively easy. If you go to the right side of the pub, up the hill, you'll find a spacious car park. The atmosphere in the pub was fantastic! We hadn't made a reservation (although we should have, as the pub is bustling), and because of this oversight, we almost missed out on having a meal. Thankfully, the landlady, Luda, went out of her way to find us a table. However, I highly recommend making a reservation - it's worth it, as the food is of the highest quality, and it is a real treat to enjoy two great, helpful, polite gentlemen, Ben and Stanley, who looked after us. Charming young men they will make sure you are served in the best way. I had lamb, and I loved it; my friend Sintija had a Pork tower, and on the side, we had a stream of vegetables. Steamed up to my standard - not too soft, as I wouldn't say I like when steamed vegetables turn into mush. Full of nutrients. Food 10/10, service 10/10, pub and atmosphere 10/10, car park 10/10, location 10/10. P.S. Luda (the landlady) can impress you if you speak Russian, as she told us how she came from Estonia to live in the UK. ☺️ Any Eastern European pple- you should pop around to say 'Hi'.

Visited here on Saturday evening for a meal out with family and Dalmatian. What a wonderful find!! A wonderfully inviting and atmospheric country pub with fires burning and plenty of interesting artefacts. Very dog friendly too (apologies to Timmy, the pub cat). The food was excellent - high quality ingredients and very nicely presented. I can personally recommend the 'Rabbit & Ham Hock Pie'(plenty of meat in the filling, and lovely crisp pastry on top), and the 'Pear & Strawberry Tart'. Ingredients are sourced locally, for example, the lamb coming from the farm across the road, and the pears and strawberries from their own gardens. The landlady was lovely and very personable, coming to chat to us in general and about the food on the menu (I've no idea how she remembers that long list of deserts!), and to make a fuss of our Dalmatian. The serving staff were very efficient, and so polite. We found mobile signal to be poor, but there is free wifi available. The toilets were spacious and clean. Parking, on the northern side of the pub seemed rather limited - but it was dark, and maybe there was more further along? It's such a shame that we live about 125 miles away or else we'd be regulars..... If you're in the area, I'd recommend you pay the Rose & Crown a visit - you won't regret it.

We visited the Rose & Crown for dinner. The Warm ambience and the charming rustic decor of the dining area and bar are welcoming and cozy. Beautiful views of the Peak Hills from the comfort of the dining area. A variety of dishes to choose from for all tastes. We ordered a Rabbit and ham hock pie with chips aswell as a Lamb Henry with Spring onion mash and red wine jus. Followed by Apple crumble and a Strawberry cheesecake decorated accompanied with a few Summer berries. Both dishes were beautifully flavoursome. The Pie crust was beautifully baked. The Lamb pulled apart effortlessly. The Crumble fruity and the cheesecake was light and fluffy, not dense. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. The Service was friendly and the young gentlemen did a great job. There is ample customer parking and for sunny days, they have a garden. We would happily dine here again and this pub/ restaurant is a gem.

My partner and I were staying in the area and found the Rose & Crown when looking for somewhere for a late lunch/early dinner. The staff were super friendly when we arrived, and although they were extremely busy and fully booked, they managed to squeeze us in!

The food was absolutely amazing - probably the best meal out we've had in years; my partner had the Lamb Henry, which I tasted and was divine, perfectly cooked & seasoned melt-in-the mouth lamb which was falling off the bone and beautifully tender. I had one of the specials; a beef and venison pie, the crust was mouth-wateringly crisp and again the meat was cooked perfectly; moist and tender, with just the right amount of bite but without being chewy at all. It was served with some deliciously crispy chips, some creamy leeks topped with melted cheese, and some vegetables, all of which were also cooked to perfection. We finished up with a bread and butter pudding for my partner, and a lemon meringue parfait for me. The bread and butter pudding was again cooked perfectly, full of flavour, and really moist, without being soggy. The lemon meringue parfait was deliciously tart and refreshing, with loads of lemon flavour and just the right mix of sweet/sour/creamy.

We would thoroughly recommend visiting if you're in the area; perfect food and service and all at a reasonable price, just make sure you...
