Not great from the beginning - We booked a table for outside to be told when we got there they don’t book outside tables. I asked the staff about the track & trace and was told no you don’t have to do that as we was outside ( everyone over 16 has to do this when entering an establishment ) Was told we had to sit on the end of somebody else’s table while they was still on it so we didn’t lose it- ( felt really awkward to be rushing them off there table aswell as being in a pandemic) The table then wasn’t cleaned after the customer left. Was told we was to busy for us and we had to go to the bar for drinks when it’s ment to be table service only The food came out and 6 out of 8 meals where cold. I sent mine back and then it came back out and i said that we wasn’t happy with the other meals but nothing was done to resolve this. then again we had to go to the bar for drinks as the waitress said she wasn’t able to take more than 2 drinks orders at the table We mention how unhappy we was to several staff members and also spoke to the manager and she told my party member ( we never get complaints.) They happily took the £270 pounds to pay the bill from my partner with not a sorry or free chip insight. Also I never expect anything for free but to go out on my birthday having been in lockdown for so long to be treated the way we got treated here - a free shot to take the edge of the awful evening wouldn’t of...

Absolutely abysmal experience last Monday when we came for a meal with our friends who were travelling between the West Country and London. I have posted 1 star to reflect the service of a young girl who looked after our table us as she was pleasant and courteous. The other two on duty, older women had a hostile demeanour. The toilet, next to the dining area had the door propped wide open so that it was impossible to see whether it was ladies or gents. The hand dryer was so loud it drowned out the conversation at the table. I have dined out several times during Covid, as well as going into coffee shops 2 or 3 times a week, and have never experienced this practice anywhere else. No closed doors allowed in the building. Our gentleman guest closed the restaurant door because of the noise and the staff were very cross, I understand that- but not the way they told us, aggressively, that they needed to 'check only one person was in the toilet' ?? What is wrong with a notice? The meal was the worst I have had for a long time. Whitebait, dry and overcooked, bread so solid I couldn't tear it apart, and a vegetarian curry with no flavour and not enough sauce to moisten the rice. The sweet couldn't be spoiled, an affogato. Never again. It had a good reputation. Very...

Just spent a couple of nights at this beautiful Pub/B&B as a birthday treat for my wife. It exceeded our expectations for friendliness, service, comfort and location. Our room was clean, sumptious and with all the features you would expect from a well run hotel with a stunning breakfast to match. Our room had its own table and parasol with a lovely view over the well kept garden and rolling fields and hills beyond We had our dog Millie with us and the staff could not be more friendly and welcoming towards her, making a fuss of her on each service to our table. Particular mention to Devan who was very warm, corteous and attentive, she also gave some good advice on the local area, plus a treat or three for Millie. The pub is very covid aware but this doesn't deflect from an excellent experience. The Rose and Crown offers a food menu to compare with any top rated restaurant and delivers in its quality, flavour and presentation... and as for the Sunday Roast...WOW!! Lots of lovely walks with fabulous scenery are close at hand plus the beautiful town of Sherborne. The only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer, but we will endeavour to...

The Rose and Crown is our favourite country pub. Situated in the village of Trent, it combines quality food with friendly service from the staff. There is plenty of options for indoor and outdoor eating in a relaxed, comfortable environment. Nice indoor vibe at the bar, and there’s comfy leather sofas and an open fire in an interesting old side room. Cozy. Perfect for a midwinter visit. There’s a good selection of beers and currently Aspall’s cider on draught too. That’s a personal favourite of mine while out walking. Eating or drinking outside is a good experience with multiple spaced tables. There’s even smaller ‘tables for two’ and all with a decent rural view. There’s a spacious bordered garden with good plantings, including lots of lavender that in the July sunshine was covered with bees. Accommodation is available in the form of several rooms away from the main pub building. You can even catch the last of the day’s sunshine at the bench tables out the front of the pub. Nice. We’ve done that. It’s decent quality all round at this pub, which is what I like. 5 stars.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.... Couldn't recommend this B&B gastro pub highly enough... From the charming staff that couldn't do enough to please or the best Sunday lunch I've ever had ., Or to the most complete room we have ever stayed in... You will not be disappointed with this most perfect find .... The only negative is the bedrooms are not shouted about enough ... Woke this morning from the best sleep to be greeted with a dear walking past our room... Massive shout out to a fantastic job being done by Marcus & Megan and their team.... Will definitely be back x
