We thought we would give this place a go after conflicting reviews for a late anniversary lunch. Upon arriving we were not offered a wine list but asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered chardonnay and hubby cranberry juice, she came back and said they had no cranberry then came back again and said no chardonnay! We settled for orange juice and another wine. The food was a while in coming but was lovely so we can't fault the food. It was missing the coleslaw which was meant to come with the chips and sandwich. For the remainder of the meal all we could hear were disgruntled staff arguing and at one point what appeared to be the manager and another woman March out to the back screaming at each other. Not professional at all. We were told they had been there since May. Surely you would have organised yourselves by then. Such a shame as it's a lovely pub being let down by the management. Normally l would have complained but we didn't want the rest of our meal ruined. We would say hats off to the chef and the waitress that served us 👏

Booked and stayed for 2 nights, the good bits first, food was excellent, a very high standard, can’t honestly say we have had better, staff were all lovely, but overworked, one member of staff on at a time( not counting kitchen staff of course) they were responsible for booking in, serving at the bar, taking phone calls, taking orders for meals from the dining room, and serving all the meals, which like I said were delicious. The bed was very comfortable, slept quite well. Room OK, bathroom not good, no bath mat if you only wanted a shower, no hand rail if you had a shower, no towel rail near the sink. And when you walked downstairs and along the corridor to the dining room, this is what we had to pass for 2 of the days we were here, not nice. Public areas not particularly clean either. The 3 stars are for the hotel/ pub, but I would give 5 stars to the food and the staff.

Receptionist was very polite. Food was very good. Rooms complete opposites. Am in 20-30 hotels a year. That was the econd worst I‘ve ever been. Very dirty and unkempt. Milliliter thick dust, in every corner spider cobwebs, 4 big spiders in the room, nothing clean and shine, soiled mattress, dirty beddings and hairs.. Carpet very dirty. Guess they have no hoover. In the morning around 7 restaurant was closed. No Chance to get a morning coffee. room: -5 stars Restaurant: +5 Service: 2 Will never go there again and will nobody give a recommendation for it

Start with a positive, the evening meal of a burger was very good and the young barman and waitress were very friendly and helpful.|We asked about breakfast and were told 9am.|We went down to the dining room ( which is very nice) at 9 and there was no one around for about 10 minutes. The young barman arrived and asked if we would like a drink, we ordered coffee but he had trouble with the machine so we cancelled breakfast as we were told the chef hadn't turned up!|The stairs up to the room were extremely shabby and dirty. Our room also looked as though it hadn't been vacuumed and was quite dusty in places. The bed looked inviting however.|There was a shower over the bath ( not a walk in shower) and we think the shower riser was put on upside down as even at it's lowest the shower was 6 feet high.|Despite a code for wi fi in the room there was no WiFi fi available in the bedrooms.|We had booked and paid for a 2 night stay through Booking.com and when we returned to our slightly smoky smelling room after our day out, the room hadn't been serviced. I went straight down to the manager and complained about the breakfast fiasco and was told the chef's taxi hadn't arrived. I cancelled breakfast for the following morning , not worth the risk, and when I mentioned the room had not been serviced, he seemed surprised I expected such a thing !|In my opinion they should stop offering overnight accommodation until accommodation has had a complete overhaul /clean and concentrate on the dining experience.|A very disappointing,...

I am baffled by the positive reviews of The Royal Oak.||Our room was not well maintained. Thee were lots of dead insects in the bathroom light fitting; it seemed this hadn't been cleaned out for months. There was a similar problem around the windows.||The bathroom generally was in fairly poor condition - old fittings, and an empty soap dispenser on the wall. However, a nearly-empty bottle of handwash had been left on the dirty bathroom window ledge.||A hairdryer was supplied, but as the two electric sockets were hidden behind the beds, the cord didn't stretch far enough to be able to dry one's hair whilst looking in the mirror.||The breakfasts were ok, but there was a lack of fruit and limited variety generally.||The stair carpet and access area to rooms were generally in poor condition. There were spillages and litter around the outside access area to rooms, which were not cleaned up during our 4-night stay.||The breakfast chef/manager was fairly polite, but often very casually dressed and his 'laid back' style seemed to contribute to a complete lack of attention to detail and cleanliness in the establishment generally.||I've attached some photographs of the bathroom light complete with dead flies, the dirty insect-ridden windows and the delightful bottle...
