Went for a meal tonight after seeing a Facebook post. Well I really was not dissapionted. I started with the scallops which were delicious so tender and flavours were beautiful. Followed by the sirloin steak sourced locally, again medium rare my knife cut through it like butter. I get fed up with chips and onion rings like most places. It was a pleasant surprise to be served lovely fresh greens and I chose a feta salad as a side. Really really nice. I even managed pudding as the choice was great I went for fresh strawberries and clotted cream, well you just can't go wrong. The serving staff were awesome continously checking on us. They put a carafe of iced lemon water on the table on arrival and just gave great friendly service. Tommy was great too told us the catch of the day, pie of the day and soup of the day which were all sounding lovely. He was so friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurent was fun. The bar there was so much choice, we ended up longer than planned and enjoyed the Saturday quiz, which we had not planned. I would highly reccomend local people to go along. Like me you will not be dissapionted. I want to thank Tommy and all the team for such a lovely lovely night and fantastic food thanks to your chefs. Can't wait for our next visit. I think I'll get a taxi next time so I can enjoy a summer evening of your Gin shelf on that beautiful terrace. Oh and I can't forget to sample your karaoke. Thank again. Sarah, phil...
Read moreExceptional Sunday Roast at The Shaft Inn!
We had an absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch at The Shaft Inn, and every dish exceeded our expectations.
We started with the Ham Hock and Cheese Croquette, which was perfectly crispy and paired beautifully with the pickled mushrooms and apple purée. Our daughter, Eden, had the Soup of the Day, which was a rich and flavorful tomato soup—she loved it!
For mains, Zoe had the Pork Belly, which was beautifully cooked with a delicious crispy crackling, while I had the Roast Beef, which was tender and full of flavor. Our girls had the Children’s Roast, and it was great to see that the quality and presentation were just as impressive as the adult portions. The roast potatoes were crispy, the Yorkshire puddings were huge, and the seasonal vegetables were cooked to perfection.
To finish, we had the Brownie and Sticky Toffee Pudding, both of which were absolutely divine—rich, indulgent, and the perfect way to round off the meal.
The chef has clearly earned his stripes, delivering food that is both beautifully presented and full of flavor. While the price is on the higher side, it is most definitely worth the money for the quality and experience you receive.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. The Shaft Inn truly delivers on both quality and service. Highly recommended, and we’ll...
Read moreRarely review but felt had to in instance. In the main poor quality food, poorly presented with no atmosphere, like sitting in a nearly empty cabin, albeit newly built with new furniture. A group of 30 were booked in a short while after us in a different part of the restaurant so perhaps our food was rushed? Loaded sweet potatoes were covered with a tasteless cheap cheddar that looked like melted plastic and shredded crispy beef was awful and resembled and tasted like hard pellets with a stock cube like flavour. The seafood spaghetti dish was laden in a heavy creamy barely flavoured sauce with little seafood and some unopened muscles. The starter salt & pepper squid was not rated highly by those that had it either. An average burger, not gourmet as advertised. An uninspired looking hake and pea risotto that should have been garnished with tomatoes according to the photos looked at online later, but they were omitted. The 2 childrens mains appeared acceptable to them. All in all a sad experience thankfully not to be repeated by us. Am sure there must be other food on the menu that is better considering the 4.7 rating on trip adviser so dont let our poor experience...
